He got away with a lot of that.

Pernell thought that if he could stand in the middle of the ring dodge a few punches dance around and then look at you funny, he was winning the round.

It's boxing not a dance contest.

Oscar beat him. Pacquiao would KO him.
Oscar would have KO'd Pac in his prime........Tito would have KO'd Pac in less then 4 rounds in his prime as well....it's amazing how sweat pea was competive with both hoya and tito in there primes while he was past it

Oscar beat him when Pernell was one of the best WW's, so it's a good win, but Pernell was still past his best, and he barely beat him. It was a close fight. One could easily argue that Pernell didn't lose until the Trinidad fight when he was 35 and coked up way past it.

I can't see Pac knocking Whitaker out. He'd have trouble with Pernell, it;s be a good fight.

Pacquiao isn't exactly a great Fantasy fighter. Too raw in the lower weights and too small for a welterweight.

I'm not saying Pacquiao won't have his difficulties with Pernell, but Pacquiao blistering speed, power, work rate and can punch from weird angles would mean he would land and it will be just a matter of time till those punches take their toll along with the pace and Pacquiao will land a monster shot and end it.

Oscar beat him, close fight, but Oscar took it, and it may not have been his prime but neither was Oscar.

Oscar wasn't prime in 1997???? Yes he was.......

He'd already had wins over Campanella, Paez, Molina, Ruelas, Hernandez, Leija, Chavez, and Gonzalez.....

Oscar was in his prime. He was 24, in his early prime.

It was close, could have gone either way, didn't have a problem with it as a huge Pernell fan.

You say you been watching boxing since the Ali days but this post seems fishy. For someone so experienced.

An experienced fan knows that the Oscar & Mosley Pacman fought were nothing near their best forms. Shadows if that of their former self. He would also understand weight classes & the circumstances surrounding Pacman's Cotto fight. I'm calling your bluff.

its kinda absurd to think Pac-Man even has a shot at knocking out Whitaker...dude faced alot of good punchers, bigger guys, etc. in his career and only was stopped in his last fight because of a shoulder injury...

Ramirez, JC Chavez, Azumah Nelson, Roger Mayweather, a prime De La Hoya, a prime Trinidad, all good punchers didnt stop him and all were naturally bigger than Pacquiao...Also Whitaker never a lost a fight in his prime and was outboxed in the first fight by Morales and Marquez in a draw...

Whitaker is one of the best pure boxers of all time one of the most elusive and was a fighter not a runner....at lightweight he moved some but most of the time he parryed, slipped and dipped punches with guys right in front of him, DLH who is his prime was larger fast as Pacquiao, stronger, and hit far harder could barely hit Whitaker clean who was 33 and past prime

Whitaker was a very good counterpuncher, a southpaw, went to the body very well, and had that great right jab...Manny flails alot and would be missing 3-4 to land one while being countered in between and Whitaker had a great chin(watch the Trinidad fight)

IMO Whitaker was too skilled and too complete a fighter to lose to Manny, who cant fight backwards or on the inside...Sweet Pea could do it all in the ring...if all fights were won on just Speed Power and Workrate he would have beat Morales the first time and not have had all these close controversial fights with Marquez.

Whitaker was not a counter-puncher, so he'd make Pacquiao look absolutely horrible but Manny would eventually catch him with something.
And you stand on that limb alone. .pea would make pac look like he's trying to.solve.a calculus problem
