It can come red 56 times in a row. And it won't ever mean that black is "due". Doesn't change the odds 1 bit.

if somebody needs this part of it explained to them they're probably better off putting the money in the bank instead,

you know some pro gamblers, right? they don't often play roulette, do they?

Think about the Russian pistol version also. They hand you a revolver with a 1/6 chance of ending the game on the first draw.
I read once about someone who played Russian Roulette. Trouble was they used a semi-automatic.

      Yeah he didn't win.

Any true pro's won't touch it. There are gamblers that pretend to be advantage players that believe they can beat it in the long run. But those people are as delusional as the guys that think they can beat slots long term (and sadly, those people exist).

Poker, sports betting, blackjack (optimal strategy if you can't count cards), and video poker (9-6 Jacks or Better. Optimal Strategy) are where it's at.

You would be surprised how many times I've heard "It's due". Or "law of averages, right?".

If you really want to win at the casino set aside an amount of money you can live with losing and go and have a good time. If you lose all of your money it's part of the cost of the night out, if you win money then hooray for you, if you lose it all then it's part of the cost of the night out.

The only way to win in a casino over a long term is if you own it.

this is a great way to look at it, and a very good post.

a good friend of mine used to make six figures playing online poker. he's a bright and talented guy, but he's not a unique poker quantity. there are people out there who make a living doing this stuff. there are world class poker players. it goes far beyond luck if you play enough hands of poker.

that said, casinos are some of the more lavish establishments you'll ever find, especially the major ones. people are losing a hell of a lot of money there each night to pay those bills, bay-bay,

Good way of looking at things. But people beat it every day. A lot of people do it over the long haul. The other 98% lose.

Counting cards is not a substitute for Basic Strategy. It needs to be memorized. It's so easy to memorize, yet most dealers don't even know it. Before I sit down at any blackjack table, I look at the table rules and enter it into a basic strategy engine that will spit out the perfect way to play. Just google "Basic Strategy engine blackjack". Basic Strategy alone will decrease the house edge all the way down to less than 1%.

If you want to totally eliminate the house edge and actually make it favorable on your end, you gotta count cards. And even then, your advantage is very little. Even more problematic is your window of advantage is relatively small. That's why you see card counters betting $5 for a while, then increase their bets to something totally out of character like $200 a hand when the deck is loaded with tens and aces.

If anyone is serious about this, just google how to count cards. I promise you anyone with a 5th grade understanding of math can learn how to do this in a few hours or less. It's not that hard, nor as glamorous as people make it out to be.
