  • Fighters with the "WinkyWright" type defense

Can anyone help me by naming some fighters from the past that used that type of defense, the Turtle-shell, peek-a-boo, earmuffs or whatever you want to call it. :grill:

    Winky Wright
    Joshua Clottey
    Arthur Abraham
    Andreas Kotelnik
    Mike Tyson
    Wladimir Sidorenko

yeah he did it better than anyone imo. prime quartey pumping a heavy, heavy jab from that peek-a-boo guard was no joke either.

donald curry comes to mind aswell even though he didnt turtle up quite as much, he was a beast though. terry norris was effective from that stance too even though he didnt always fight in that posture.

Ouma seems the closest to me.

I've always considered the peek a boo defense to be different from that of Winky's and Clottey's. They simply use what is called a high guard. Peek a boo is peering over your gloves using a lot of head movement. The high guard is higher than that.

Ike Quartey, who spent several years in France training alongside Winky under the same promotional team. And claims Winky switched his style to that defense after studying him use it. Very possible as Winky certainly wasn't fighting in that style earlier in his career,

You can add Clottey to that list as that peek-a-boo style is taught by a lot of trainers over there.
