  • Comments Thread For: Brian Viloria Expects a Toe To Toe War With Estrada

Macau – World Boxing Organization/World Boxing Association flyweight champion Brian Viloria said he is taking nothing for granted when he battles Mexican warrior Juan Francisco Estrada at the 15,000-seat Cotai Arena of the fantastic Venitian Macao Resort Hotel late Saturday night here in the gaming capital of Asia.

Viloria tipped the scales at 111.2 pounds, while Estrada who was reportedly having problems making the weight, was covered by a white sheet, as he stepped on the scales at the plush Venetian theater and checked in at exactly 112 pounds.

“I am expecting a toe-to-toe fight. A hard barn-burner,” Viloria told BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard and ABS-CBN. “I will counter with a smart fight. I’m going to pace right off the bat and not let his youth and aggressiveness take over and try to disrupt my fight plan.”

only seen Estrada in the Roman fight
Viloria got this, and he can get another exciting KO
he needs to string more of those kinda wins together
it's about time Viloria blew up, he can be the boss at the lower weights
Melindo fight is ok, but want Viloria to get revenge on Sosa already
surprised they never had a rematch, it's overdue

        what a choke by Viloria
Estrada really ripped him up to the body
looked for a while like Viloria might not finish
very disappointed in him, was ready for him to take over his weight range
now he's back to square one, right after that big Marquez win
in all his losses, he's failed to come on strong late when he needs too
        Saturday is ruined

He didn't choke. He hit Estrada with some monster shots but Estrada's ten years of youth, work rate, chin, and skill level got him the duke in a very good fight. Estrada gave Roman everything he could handle a fight ago and now beat Viloria. Kid is just the goods. Viloria has fought a string of real tough guys at Fly. Do that, you lose some.

bring on the chocalatito rematch. it was a competetive fight and estrada has always maintained he is stronger in flyweight.

damn feel bad for viloria...he worked hard to get to being #1 at flyweight and close to finally getting the recognition he deserves and he loses in an upset. hopefully he can come back strong again although he doesn't have much time left since he's already in his 30s.

                disappointed in Viloria's inconsistency
seems like every time he gets rolling, he hits a speed bump
was convinced after the Marquez win he wasn't looking back again
he fought hard, but needed a big rally to close and didn't do enough
now his momentum's gone, not sure if he has a return clause or not
don't think he can afford another loss
he might do better taking a soft fight, then going for a rematch

Outside Tamara, all his 'speed bumps' have been REALLY good. Edgar Sosa? Still rolling years later; one of the best Jr. Fly/Fly fighters of the last 15 years. Nino? Tough out for a lot of guys not named Gilberto Keb Baas. Estrada? Just went to the wall with a guy no one else really competes with, Gonzalez. I was THIS close to picking Estrada. Backed off. I knew this was nip tuck though. Not a big upset and no shame in the loss for Viloria. Estrada might be a round for a while.

Also, consider how his his level of opp has been over the years compare to most little guys.

aside from fighting Roman, knew nothing else of Estrada
mighta been sleeping on the guy going into this
not that Viloria was shamed, it was a good fight
but had 0 expectations of this upset, seemed like Viloria's time to shine
and beyond simply losing, he took some punishment
was hoping for a big KO in this, then revenge against Sosa
now Viloria's stuck in a quandary
do you know if there's a rematch clause for this one?
