Calzaghe's promoter Frank Warren said he has had real discussions with Jones' adviser Murad Muhammad, and did not rule out the prospect of Jones - a gifted but tremendously unpredictable character - moving down a weight to meet Calzaghe.
Frank Warren, Calzaghe's promoter, is trying to finalise a deal with Jones' promoter Murad Muhammed and is talking to the WBO to make the fight happen.
"I am close to making the fight happen and when it does we will see who is the best in the world," said Warren.
Warren was working to match Calzaghe against the formidable American Roy Jones - who beat Woodhall in the 1988 Seoul Olympics - but was asking "ridiculous sums of money".
Roy Jones:
“They wanted me to go to England to fight Joe and I said yes,” Jones said. “But they make a lowball offer. They never thought I’d agree to go his country to fight Joe so I fooled them. My phone stopped ringing after I told them and the world I would go there to fight Joe. Now it would be stupid for me to chase Joe around. If I win this fight, and I’m not looking past Hanshaw by any means, then maybe I can fight Kessler for his two titles in November. Kessler sounds serious about fighting me so I’d be stupid not to look into it. I don’t duck and dodge nobody.”
Hanshaw was not Jones' first choice, but Glen Johnson was under contractual obligations, talks fell through with Frank Warren for Joe Calzaghe and Jermain Taylor would not be ready until September,
"There is plenty of boxing life left in me yet," Jones said. "I guess Joe Calzaghe knows that because he does not want any part of me. I am taking this fight to measure myself.
"I fired off a fax to Frank Warren (Calzaghe's agent) earlier today asking him when he might be available to sit down and start talking about these matters," Jacobs added."Roy and I have been talking about Joe for a while and more importantly we watched his fight this past weekend with Mario Veit," said Jacobs.
"He certainly looked terrific. Joe's a long-standing champion and he deserves all the accolades he's receiving.
"We're anxious to initiate talks about Roy potentially fighting Joe, maybe later in 2001."
Not in chronological order, I cant be expected to do that as wellLast edited by General Zod; 04-08-2010, 09:08 AM.

I don't really buy into the "unbeatable" thing. Different times, different situations and circumstances. Say he was born 50-60 years earlier and had to fight 15+ times a year to make a living. Well, no matter how great you are, you're bound to have an off-night here and there, or run into a real tough style matchup.
Rocky Marciano never lost, well do you think he would've been undefeated if he were born 20 years later? Michael Spinks never lost in his prime, but the Eddie Davis fight was close and Spinks fought at LHW 26 times in an 8 year period. By contrast, Archie Moore fought 24 times in 24 months in the early 50s.
I wouldn't make Roy the favorite over Spinks or Bob Foster anyway.

Moorer had an awesome record at 175 but was rather untested, sort of like Edwin Valero when he died. Undefeated, all wins by KO, but with resumes that consisted of a couple wins over top 10 guys, nothing special. Moorer looked pretty sloppy against Leslie Stewart, probably the best guy he faced there.
I'd make Jones the solid favorite over Moorer.
