Khan is rebuilding. Went from fighting Top Guns like Peterson and Garcia to chumps like Molina and now Diaz. GB is re-hyping the Khan machine.

i think khan can beat anyone but not by fighting 2 times a year he needs to be more active than that or i think he will get knocked out again.

I remember Malignaggi landing 2-3 counter left hooks in their fight. They were the cleanest punches of the fight from him, but they didn't effect Khan in the slightest because of Paulie's power. A few fights later Garcia stops him with it.

Fast forward to the Molina fight, he gets caught by the same shots with a similar lack of effect because of Molina's power. There aren't many fighters that have a good counter left hook in their arsenal, but Garcia does...

So if Khan plans on going for a rematch, he has to learn how to feint (he doesn't do it often enough and when he does... they aren't good) and raise his ring IQ (when to attack, reset, feint, hold, etc. how to move (he either moves too much or not enough), and what punches he should/shouldn't throw against a certain opponent (it isn't smart to throw a right uppercut from the outside against left hook specialist the caliber of Garcia). If Hunter can't teach him that and he fights the winner of the 140 tourney, his next L will be soon.

good post. personally i think it's way too late to change khan's stripes. barring a full rebuild, where they send him to europe to get rounds with no hopers for a year or so, i can't see khan getting better at all. at least not after he gets hit. he'll revert to the old khan.

he's twice been stopped now. he's been in some wars in victory and defeat.

and finally, even if they're able to change his style, he'll still have that awful chin. he'll need to get out of the way of every big punch if he's in there with somebody who can bang. i don't think he'll ever get to that level. we'll see the running khan, and the amateurish khan, for as long as he's fighting. if his handspeed cant win him the fight he'll get stopped by the big punchers at the elite level.

Good post. The problem for Khan is he doesn't have the skill set to stand in the pocket with a guy and stay safe, he has to be just throwing everything he has at his opponent so the opponent stays in defensive mode. If the other guy is able to counter effectively then Khan is just wide open for those shots. His game depends on getting in, unloading, and getting out. Slipping shots and countering effectively on the inside isn't really something he can do.

I think that's just too much of an instinctive thing at the elite level for Khan to learn it now. A guy can either tell what shot is coming at close range and how to adjust accordingly or he can't. Ultimately Khan is going to remain an all or nothing fighter, he's either on the attack or he's in retreat, because he just doesn't have the know-how to stand in range and not get caught.

The only way he knows how to preserve that chin when he's in that territory is to throw punches himself. And a good enough fighter is always going to time him in the end.

1 fight against the Lightweight dwarf Molina where Khan got tagged a lot and showed no real changes. You are easy to convince. Diaz is well past it but this is last chance saloon for him and I am sure he fancies his chances.
