  • Comments Thread For: Nonito Donaire, Top Rank Deal is Close, Says Garcia

According to trainer Robert Garcia, a new agreement is close between Top Rank and WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire. Garcia tells Sal Rodriguez that Donaire might return in September or October to avoid being stripped of his two titles, if the new deal with Top Rank goes through. Donaire has been inactive since February's two round knockout of Fernando Montiel. Donaire was caught in the middle of a promotional tussle between Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions, but a legal decision solidified Top Rank's position as holding a valid contract over Donaire.

So, that does it mean both Donaire and Arum told the wife to go get in the kitchen make a sandwich and this time stay inside of it indefinitely?

He's got no one to blame but himself. Next time read ur contract. All he had to do was sit back and chill, he only had like one year left. Then he could do whatever he wanted. Instead he's been sitting around on his ass, and now he's gonna be stuck with the bobfather for 3 more years. That's what happens when u let ur chick wear the pants.

MANNY#1ATG is nothing but a stinking Anti Semite whose hate filled poison should be ignored by every sportsman and follower of boxing.

ONLY the ADMINISTRATORS should pay attention and BAN THIS PIECE OF EXCREMENT.

                  Boxers are like SLAVES NOW!

NO FREEDOM! And they have to fight who ever their Promoter tells them to fight I thought the Promoter is suppose to work for you...at least that is how it was back in the day, Ali, Ray Leonard and even Oscar seems to have more control

didn't Arum talk about his wife? but Arum has him by the BALLS, it is nothing Donaire which is SAD

JOE, Arum spelled out the contract clearly and won in Law. Donaire should have told his wife to stay out of his business and fought Moreno as arranged. This was the fight he'd been looking for. I blame Oscar with his wheedling, enticing fighters who are little more than kids when it comes to brains.

The Contract terms were to have been UP on June 26th of this year. But they were extended by 2 six month periods because of Donaire's medical suspensions.

THEN....Arum clearly stated that the contract contained an option of another YEAR, which Top Rank would activate, which made Donaire's contract last until the end of June 2013.

SO...after Oscar meddled in his usual unclever way, it LOST Donaire a big money fight already arranged, plus big legal fees, plus staying idle with no future.

Then he got smart, with another 3 year contract, which will last until July 2014, most likely also with an extension option, which is ordinary business common sense. It can work for the benefit of BOTH.

Marvin Hagler stayed with Top Rank his whole career, and Manny Pacquiao will likely also do the same thing until retirement.
