Q: Why?
A: Styles.
Let look at Mayweather, Jose Luis Castillo and Diego Corrales.
Castillo and Corrales had a tough and competative fight between the two of them.
Mayweather shut Corrales out during the fight and knocked corrales down about 5 times in the time span of about 4 rounds. (It was a massacre)
Considering these facts you'd think "Well Coralles is on even terms with JLC when it comes to how well they fight so... yeh Mayweather would atleast shut JCL out"
well...
Mayweather then fought JLC twice and during each time, had a close fight.
This is because of HOW the fight is played out in the ring.
How you fight is determined by which style of boxer you are.
So considering that Marquez had a very different style than Oscar I don't think he should be used as a measuring tool to what the outcome of Pac - DLH will be.
Consider this.
People are saying that Oscars key to this fight would be his jab.
Well, when Marquez fought Pacquiao, Marquez chose to barely jab because of how effective Manny's right hook counter to the jab is.
now... when you don't jab you choose to go with your right hand. Which once again isn't that impressive at this stage of Oscars career.
During the Marquez fight you heard Lampley say over and over again "This fight is once again about Pacquiao's Straight left vs. Marquez's straight right"
Well Manny probably won't be able to counter DLH's jab as effectively so Oscar will probably choose to jab over and over again.
So just by the jab alone it ought to be clear that the way this fight is going to be played is going to be very different from the way the Pac - JMM fight was played.
Conclusion: Marquez is not a good measuring stick for Pac - DLH... So dont use him as one.
Other things to think about how the fight will be like compared to the JMM fight
- Manny is a really small target (for DLH)
- DLH is slow to pull the trigger (Marquez is not...not at all...NOT EVEN CLOSE"
- Roach was worried about JMM's style but does'nt seem to be worried about DLH's
- Oscar is not the counter puncher Marquez is.
