Ortiz didnt push the action and let Peterson get back into the fight. That was frustrating to watch and thats y I can see a draw. Peterson was accurate and recovered nicely from the knockdowns. Ortiz should have been able to finish him off the way Petersons body language was i didn't think he would last or come back in the fight like that. Ortiz is a beast early and fades late. Throw him in with Judah they are perfect for each other! I don't wanna see Ortiz-Peterson again!! Judah-Ortiz would be awesome!

Lamont Peterson landed more jabs, landed more power shots, countered beautifully after making Ortiz miss with those lunging punches and he had Ortiz backing up for most of the fight - Lamont was the MUCH better boxer last night.
Without the 3rd Rd - Lamont wins going away...

No way it had some action although not much, Haye vs Harrison was much worse.

            1. VO won this fight. a draw don't do much for him or peterson.

i will say this was an awkward fight. not what i expected.

I mostly watch fights just to see how fighters perform, I don't think I've ever kept score of a fight. So whether Victor won or loss doesn't really matter because one thing looks for sure, Victor doesn't know how to do enough in the ring to beat any of the top guys.

And honestly if he moves up to 147 he's gonna get ripped apart.

He needs a new trainer ASAP, it's not entirely too late for him but it's getting close. But even with a new trainer Victor is going to have to think for himself in the ring and utilize any new training he gains, which I'm not sure he's capable of. I don't know how many times I've seen him hurt a guy with a single body shot, only to never throw a meaningful body shot again. It's like he doesn't even know what's going on the ring sometimes.

I was shocked one judge had it for Peterson.

But I'd have to re-watch and score correctly to be sure. Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention.

The 94-94 scores slightly suprised me, though there were several rounds where Peterson was the busier fighter and at times the aggressor. Ortiz has himself to blame for the judges going the way they did.

Good thing Larry and Roy were with him tonite... :-)
Nope. I couldn't have paid attention to Lamps even if I wanted to, since I was distracted trying to watch HBO and Showtime at the same time. And actually, on second viewing, Lamps gave Lamont all kinds of credit. It was Larry who kept ignoring all the good things Lamont was doing.

Anyway here's how I scored it on second viewing:

                    Round 1
Not much happened, Ortiz slightly more active
                    Ortiz 10-9 (maybe 10-10)

                    Round 2
Not much happened here either, but Ortiz more aggressive
                    Ortiz 10-9

                    Round 3
Ortiz scores two knockdowns. Peterson lands huge left hook at end of round
                    Ortiz 10-7

                    Round 4
Close round, Ortiz more aggressive, active and got in some body work, but Peterson landed the harder blows.
                    Peterson 10-9

                    Round 5
Ortiz missed a lot this round, danced and ran too much. Peterson landed the two hardest shots in this round (counter left hook at 1:43 and overhand right at 1:10)
                    Peterson 10-9

                    Round 6
Close round, tough to score, not much landed, but Peterson did land a hard right at 1:34
                    Peterson 10-9

                    Round 7
Peterson lands left hook (2:38) and head snapping jab (1:29). Ortiz lands lead left (2:35). Ortiz aggressive in last minute, but mostly misses. Ortiz runs too much this round.
                    Peterson 10-9

                    Round 8
                    Big Peterson round
                    Peterson 10-9

                    Round 9
Peterson lands huge right (0:46). Rest of round is a wash.
                    Peterson 10-9

                    Round 10
Close round, both guys landed. Ortiz had more damaging blows, hurt Peterson at 0:44.
                    Ortiz 10-9

                    Total: 94-94 Draw

Lamont showed a lot of heart to recover from the 3rd round, landed a lot of great counters, rolled with a lot of Ortiz' punches.

Ortiz ran way too much at times, doing nothing except killing time. He might have been able to finish Lamont off if he wasn't so gun shy. Maidana is still his legal guardian.

                      Will say it again.

I thought Ortiz won the fight.

Lamont would decimate Ortiz in a rematch.

Peterson looked rusty coming off a 8 month layoff.

The guy who showed up against Bradley beats the breaks off Ortiz.
