We know it's not going to be an easy night for Haye but can he get a well earned victory by decision in Germany? Or does he have to knock Valuev out?

Does Haye have to knock Valuev out?

No. And yes.
No, because I think he can win a decision. Many think Holyfield should have got the decision against Valuev, but he was only marginally busier than the big guy. Haye will be a lot busier, and his punches are just as effective. I think Haye's work rate and effective punch count will carry it, even in Germany.
The 'yes' is because I think Haye's career needs the KO. Despite all the bluster and ill-will, would either of the Klitschkos really be able to turn down a fight against the first fighter to stop the giant, without looking like complete *******? One or both would have to happen, and on much better terms than Haye was offered before.

If he wins on points it will need to be an absolute clinic; an exhibition of such undeniable superiority that to deny it would lead to the kind of worldwide condemnation that might kill the sport of boxing as a business model in Germany.
If he can pull out any kind of obvious dominance, that's still big. Valuev's chin is a long ass way from the floor.
Ed: If he can knock him spark out though, well then he's going to be kicking down doors and making serious paper.Last edited by Cereal; 08-29-2009, 08:33 AM.

[T]KO'ing him would make a HUGE statement to the division, and would be an absolute sensation, especially for only his 2nd proper fight as a HW.
He doesnt HAVE to KO him to win but giventhe fight location he'll have to batter the **** out of Valuev to get the nod.
Chambers battered Dimitrenko to pieces, winning all but a couple of rounds, even dropping him twice on the way, and one judge cqalled it a 113-113 draw .. Go figure.

You want to dethrone a chamion? Prove it, by action. If the contender is equal or only marginaly better than the champion, he won't get the belt. I think this the same worldwide.
Schulz vs. Foreman - Schulz was the better boxer, but still didn't get the belt, 'cause he didn't dominate daddy Foreman.
To get Valuev's belt, Haye will need to school or TKO Valuev. It won't be enough to be slightly better than the russian giant.
That aside, I hope Haye will do it. I want the belts united, and Haye will fight a Klitschko sooner or later, if he owns a belt.
And if he loses, he'll need to go into hiding for the next few decades - he'll be a joke if he annonced beating up the Klitschkos and then not even be able to defeat the slow Valuev.Last edited by Phirsole; 08-29-2009, 08:57 AM.
