There is a case for #1 but I think he needs to beat Pavlik to get that.

If Calzaghe convincingly defeats Hopkins, where do you rank him p4p?

Top 3 would be fair.
I don't think Calzaghe should be number 1 for beating Bernard Hopkins, it's a 43 year old man he is fighting after all.
If he beats some top LHW's (winners of Tarver - Woods, Johnson - Dawson, RJJ...) and Pavlik then yes, he could be the number 1 p4p.
Mayweather has accomplishments that no one can take away from him but if he keeps on fighting so seldomly without facing any top WW opposition, I'd have to drop his p4p rank.
However, that is only if someone like Calzaghe or Pacquiao establishes himself as worthy for that number 1 rank.
I feel Pacquiao is the number 2 p4p right now but his win over Marquez, while an impressive name on his record, was not very convincing.
A convincing victory over Hopkins would put Calzaghe over Pacquiao for me.
However if Pacquiao wins the LW title, he would become the number 2 again for me, perhaps even the number 1 (unless Mayweather beats Miguel Cotto).Last edited by TheGreatA; 03-28-2008, 12:01 PM.

Kessler was considered top 10 P4p by many.
You got to understand, Calzaghe has stayed in one division his whole career up untill now, how can there be multi P4P fighters in 1 division? Hopkins fought WELTERWEIGHTS who where P4P and moved up to fight him, Calzaghe wasn't so lucky.

A lot of people will say "Hopkins was old" after Calzaghe defeats him in order to discredit Joe, but let's remember that The Ring Magazine has Hopkins at #4 p4p, ahead of a lot of people, including Joe.
BoxRec p4p list rates B-Hop #1!

i guess it depends on how highly you rate hopkins i mean do you seriously tink that he is the one the top 10 p4p boxers in the world? i mean the overall package - if kessler and hopkins were to meet who would win? hopkins imo would be lucky make a top 20 p4p list never mind a top 10.
joes fighting this fight for one reason: ???. hes never really had a big payday, or a big fight in america and a big name is something that is missing from his resume. hes only got a couple of fights left in him and and at this stage most fighters want to swell up their bank accounts before riding off into the distance.
joe's aleady been one of the old guard in eubank and matched and beat 2 of the best young fighters (kessler and lacey) in terms of stamina, courage and hunger. all he needs to do now is maybe add 2 more big names (hopkins, RJJ, woods/tarver) or maybe go for pavlik.
either way im pretty sure that were it not for his troubling hands and frank warren hed be no.1 by now.
