  • Mayweather-Castillo I Press Scoring

I wish Dios was still here, he would have this answered in one post...

Does anyone have scores that ringside press scorers came up with for Mayweather-Castillo I?

I'm kind of curious, because I have heard that more than a few gave the fight to Mayweather, but I had some trouble finding it after a limited search on google.

Yea it was like a 60-40 split between ringside observers, in favor of a Mayweather Victory.

Close fight, i thought Castillo definetly won though IMO.

I had it 114-112 for Mayweather, but it's interesting. I was rewatching it a thrid time the other day and wasn't paying that close of attention because I was in the car riding along.

It was round 8, when Castillo he got his point deduckted. First two times, I scored it ten eight for Mayweather. This time however it looked like Castillo won. I was like "WTF?" So I went back rewatched it closely and Mayweather definietly won it. I was mislead by Castillo's agression when not paying close attention, but if you do, I noticed a lot of Castillo's shots missed in that round and Floyd landed pretty clean.

Just goes to show people need to pay close attention to bouts. Just saying.

I had Floyd winning 115-111. Close fight, but Floyd clearly won.

Dios isn't banned again (I think) so if I see him post I will bump this. Personally I had it 114-112 for Floyd but you could have an argument for Castillo winning. Just don't use the word "robbery" in a bout like this.

I love how Dios is gone for a couple hours and every assumes his forum-obsessed ass is banned again...whatever happened to the PERMA-ban, anyway?!??!?!

Back on topic, by DLH/Mayweather judging standards I could see some giving Mayweather the win in the Castillo fight.

Does anyone have the press scoring for the rematch also?

I mean I'm not seeing how the judges had it 115-113 in the rematch where I thought Floyd beat him pretty soundly, 118-110 or 117-111.

this is what I could dig up.

                  http://www.infinityboxing.com/MikeSl...eatherWins.htm

After a few long minutes of anticipation, announcer Michael Buffer read the verdict of the three ringside judges. Most in press row were discussing who we had picked, with half of the media scoring for Mayweather, the other for Castillo. The official scores all favored Mayweather by the tallies of 115-111 (twice) and 116-111 for a surprisingly wide unanimous decision. I also scored it 115-111 for Mayweather, but the rounds were so close, they could have gone either way, making the fight much closer than what the scores read.

                  http://www.maxboxing.com/Kim/kim042202.asp

Ringside media was split on who won the WBC lightweight title fight, respected scribes like Kevin Iole of the Las Vegas Review Journal and David Mayo of the Grand Rapids Press (Mayweather's hometown paper) each had scoring similar to the three judges. Many others had a much smaller margin of victory for 'the Pretty Boy.'

But guys like Jesus Chavez, who lost via TKO to Mayweather last fall, clearly had Castillo retaining his title.

"I think Jose Luis Castillo did an absolutely outstanding job of boxing out there against Floyd," said Chavez, shortly after the verdict wasannounced, "and I think that he should have given him the decision. Unfortunately, the judges didn't see it that way and they gave it to Floyd."

And former two-time WBC lightweight champion Stevie Johnston, who had earlier in the night defeated Alejandro Gonzalez and had two tough bouts against Castillo himself, was even more emphatic in his judgment of the bout.

"Castillo!!!" exclaimed 'Lil' But Bad' when asked who he had winning at the post-fight presser. "He made Floyd run, that's what I saw."

It's evident that while Mayweather got the decision, it was Castillo who's stock rose on this night.
