Thomas Wolfe, Robert Ruark, Ray Bradbury, William Faulkner and to a lesser extent Ernest Hemingway, in addition to the names mentioned. James Michener was pretty good, but I had a hard time taking him seriously after he wrote about killing an antelope and eating the gizzard (that only birds have) in one of his books. Michael Chrichton was good as well.
