I'm surprised more wrestlers weren't able to sprawl and avoid more of those takedowns and avoid more of those submissions back then. I guess it was all new at that time. Jason Delucia has even said he entered the tournament not only to try to win it, but to get another shot at Royce. That's why Royce held onto that armbar a little longer than usual. Dan Severn even said on the Ultimate Royce DVD that he had never seen a triangle choke before. That's why it impresses me even more today when someone can be caught in a submission.
What do you guys think of Royce? ATG? I think so, since the guy's a pioneer in the sport and beat pretty much everyone in his time. He's definitely one of my favorites.
