Of course, open endings at times can be due to sloppy writing or film making, but usually it's to make you think a little bit, to get into what the point of the film is. I like that, I actually feel like I've got my money's worth more
when I walk away with something to think about.
The Dark Knight Rises ending was simple.
Batman fixes the autopilot on the bat-wing.
Ejects before it explodes.
Escapes to Europe.
Goes to cafe, see's Alfred.
I don't see why people regard Batman as open ended. It's clear cut.
