  • Comments Thread For: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Takes Pride In Championship Status

Don’t believe that belts matter? Tell that to any current alphabet title claimant today.

Sure, it’s widely recognized that Sergio Martinez is the true lineal middleweight champion of the world. But don’t tell Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. that his belt doesn’t matter.

If so, his newfound love for the sport could suddenly waver.

The biggest surprise during the press tour hyping up this weekend’s title defense against Peter Manfredo Jr. is the fact that Chavez Jr (43-0-1-1NC, 30KO) has long ago been in proper fighting shape. The bout marks the first defense of the title he acquired in a hard-fought decision win over Sebastian Zbik this past June, and has no plans to relinquish that status any time soon.

Chavez sucks, they stole the title from Sergio Martinez and give it to Chavez, who won't even fight Sergio Martinez who is his mandatory, because of that champion emertius BS.

that coward won't even fight his actual mandatory Rubio.

Chavez is a joke, and he only holds a belt because of his father.

if you are a champion, the training wheels are supposed to be off but with Chavez and Alvarez all we hear is "ohh he's not ready for that, he needs more time" WTF!! the WBC just gives belts to hype jobs who make Sulaiman money. all Chavez is a paper champ nothing more.

He sucks ... He had an unbelievable weight advantage over Zbik and still got a controversial decision, in fact I had Zbik winning the fight.

Then he won't defend his title against Martinez, he's been avoiding him since he got the belt, and he doesn't want to fight against Rubio either, the guy is just ducking every real opponent a world champion should face. He's fighting Peter Manfredo, and he was going to fight against Ronald Hearns and still canceled that fight. He ain't a real champion.

too bad hes no champion. how can you consider yourself nto only the champion but a champion when the champion never lost his belt was and still willing and wanting to fight you. was strip of belt giving some made up bs belt and had to fight to earn a shot at his belt that was strip of him in first place? then you go fight duddy who was the best fighter you fought but no where near deserving of the title and you call yourself a champion? chavez jr is the only boxer i have no respect for and hate his guts. its one thing to be guided your entire career on the easiest path ever but to accept it and never challenging yourself is even worst. he has liek 50 fights and peter manfredo is going to be his toughest opponent. O_o

Proud for a belt that he was "given", never fought a top 10 challenger, the most protected boxer in OUR sport...eventually he'll fight a good boxer..can't see him boxing Canelo or Martinez, & be exposed for the fraud he is...what his father, Arum and the WBC is doing borders on criminality...

totally agree about the bogus nature of Jr.s 'championship' -- I don't think his people will EVER let him get in there with a top tier guy because they know that would probably burst his bubble.....
