  • Mario Maldonando

Beat top unbeaten prospects Roger Leanard (ray Leanard's bother), Norberto Sabater, Willie Torres, also holds a win over former british lightmiddleweight champion jimmy batten who pushed a lightmiddleweight duran to the wire. Mario gave hot pospect tony ayala all he could handle dropping and nearly stopping ayala in a thriller, only for ayala to come back and get the ko win. Maldonando could be one of the best not to challenge for any title, was a solid contender who never avoided no one

Mario Maldonado always gave his best and come to win. Alot of prospects always had a fight on there hands when they fought Maldonado, as Tony Ayala Jr found out in 81, when Maldonando dropped in the 1st round. Ayala do would comeback to KO him in 3.

Maldonando's best win came against then 15-0 Roger Leonard, Leonard had already beaten Maldonando, 2 years before on Maldonando debut. As it was a bit of a mini shocker when Mario pulled off the upset.

As you stated he also defeated UK's Jimmy Batten in what also could be his best win. He Ko'd Batten in 1 round, in another minni upset. Only 2 fights later Batten would give Robeto Duran a decent rumble and give him something to think about.

But most of the time his career blew hot and cold, prospects and D level oppostion often beat him. But no dout he should of challegened for something in a carrer, especailly after those two wins he got against Leonard and Batten. He could of been granted a shot at the USBA or NABF titles.
