wearing gauges in your ears was popular with hippie kids in the early-mid nineties and caught on with the ravers from the late nineties into the 2000s and it just sort of transferred over to the hipsters at some point in the mid-2000s.

Skinny jeans aren't that bad imo, I don't wear them but I don't mind the tighter styles of jeans that have emerged from the super tight styles being trendy. Pants got ridiculous in the late 90s.

Like you however, I really don't get the snap back hats being trendy. That was like a total fashion taboo for years and years. Same with the giant headphones, I guess for noise cancelling purposes I can see the point...but people wearing them around like a fashion statement is pretty odd.
