  • Proof Margarito was ducked by EVERYONE

4Corner's thread about resumes is unfair to Margarito as Tony tried to fight any and every top fighter since 03. His resume doesn't stack up because no one, absolutely no one, wanted to fight him.

"Margarito wants everyone to know, he wants to fight the best out there. "I want De La Hoya! I want Vargas! I want Mayweather! I want Mayorga! I want Spinks! I want Forrest! I even want Hopkins!"

    http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/sh....php?p=2964809

"Let's put all the baloney aside. Mayweather was offered $8 million to fight Antonio. He turned it down. When he fought [Carlos] Baldomir, he didn't make anything like $8 million. I don't care what they're saying, nobody guaranteed him anything close to that. "

"Don King does not want to lose control of the belts, which is part of the reason a Judah fight doesn't seem likely. But like I said, Margarito will fight anyone."

    Oh and.. "Margarito
stated he wanted to fight either Floyd Mayweather Jr. (they share the
same promoter) but Floyd was not interested"

So before you aks yourself "Who is Margarito" "Who did he beat?" blahzay blahzay, please educate yourselves and accept that no one in Boxing gave The Tijuana Tornado an opportunity in his prime. Not bad for a so called "unskilled, one-dimensional bum".

Reading those articles made me respect Kermit Cintron, Joshua Clottey, and Miguel Cotto a whole lot more. They easily could've said no but they took the risk, they dared to be great. I totally respect that. How could you not?

          Wow...

Floyd really didn't want any part to Margarito.

Can't forget this classic video where Margarito personally calls him out and Floyd almost soils himself.

He will always be the "baddest man on the planet" as far as I'm concerned. The man who laughs at the expense of pain and spits in the eye of adversity.

Bro, I posted in that other thread as well. Even though I ranked Tony the lowest, I remember that during that time pre-cotto Margs was "feared" by most.

There is a lot of reason why Margarito didn't get the big names around 2005/2006, and Arum was partly to blame, not everybody was scared of Margarito. Boxers fight for money and when you get offered something better or you have another boxer that you can chase and make more money then logic suggest you would go after the big name, When Judah beats spinks he was looking at a payday in De la Hoya and Mosley he was looking up not down where Margarito was at the time, When Mayweather moved up he was looking at Mosley and De la Hoya, Hatton, Cotto etc because they bring more money to the table etc

De la Hoya was looking at Judah, Cotto, Mayweather etc too because it presents him with the options of making more money. Margarito IMO wouldn't well promoted by Arum at the time, he was ignored because Arum had other fighters who were hotter and bigger sellers, It was out of desperation that Arum started offering Mayweather a fight with Margarito for $8M and he uses that to build Margarito up a bit which finally helped but beforehand Arum didn't really concentrate on Antonio which sucks for him.
