  • Any boxers who smoke???????????

Man I've been smoking for five years now and I've started boxing for about three months. I've cut down on how many cigs I used to smoke (used to be one pack a day which is 20 cigs now I smoke 10 cigs a day) but my trainer is telling me I better stop; i need to stop. He's telling I have a lot of potential but I cant reach it without the right conditioning and I cant reach that while I'm smoking............anyone been throught this and please help me quit.

Its just a hurdle look at it as an obstacle you have to jump over to get to where you need to be. I can tell after I smoke anything the next time I go run or workout I can tell the difference. I couldnt imagine smoking anything on a day to day basis but I can tell you its goona make a difference if you spar or not. Alot of people dont think a little cig here and a cig there cant hurt but it does. its one of those type of things you have to run away from or just toss out.

I quit about 10 months ago, for me I had to make some big lifestyle changes. I stopped drinking alcohol altogether stop hanging out at my favorite bars and stopped socialising with the people I used to party with. I replaced this with boxing weights and exercise, watching the foods I eat, and doing stuff in the day and mornings (instead of being too hungover to do anthing) and finding another hobby (black and white photography with antique cameras). It was difficult but I found it worked alot better than just continuing with the old lifestyle and trying to not drink when I had a few beers or in the old social situations when I used to smoke.

Answering the threads name, Ricardo Mayorga smokes like nobody does.

this may not help you, but if you really want to take boxing serious you need to stop it now. I dont get why is so hard for people to stop smoking. Like 2 years ago i remember i smoked 3 cigs in one day and the next day i didn't even care and didn't it anymore. Why some people get so addctive with it ?? it's unbelievable to me (no offense).

you dont get addicted by smoking 3 cigarettes in 1 day.

Well if that isnt the dumbest post Ive ever seen (no offense) :P

It takes time for an addiction to set in. Its really hard to quit if you dont have a strong enough reason, for me that reason was boxing.

I smoked since I was 16 till I was 21 (so 5 years) and I got to the point where I smoked about 3/4 a pack a day at least. I decided if I wasnt mentally tough enough to quit cold turkey I wasnt tough enough to get in the ring, I had to either quit smoking or quit boxing. I tried countless times before to quit but I never had a reason until I got this idea in my head to box. You have to have inspiration not desperation to break a habit. If your desperate, the desperation fades as quick as it rears its head and you never succeed, but, if you are inspired then you will tough it out and do it no matter what.

it takes a few more than 3 to be addicted.
