  • Comments Thread For: Martinez-Chavez Jr. Sellout Crowd Brings in $3 Million

This past Saturday’s middleweight championship bout between Sergio Martinez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. played out in front of a crowd of more than 17,000 people and brought in more than $3 million in ticket sales, according to figures provided by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

A total of 16,939 tickets were sold to the eight-fight card that took place at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas and aired, in part, on HBO Pay-Per-View. Another 751 tickets were given away for free. No tickets went unsold.

This is an ass number. Relatively speaking.

Think about it: this event was MUCH bugger than the GBP show, and only did $1.4 million more.

Those are good numbers. Not great but there are few who can produce great numbers

Thought I was part of the largest boxing crowd in the history of the Thomas & Mack Center. Oh well, atmosphere was outstanding and great night for boxing.

Boxingscene. Where doing twice as much as the competition is not good.

(only did 1.4 more lol.. Theyd have needed Canelo to fight twice to get those numbers...)

Not bad for a hype job and an "unknown".

Don't compare it to Canelo. Compare it to other PPV's that got a 24/7 and that type of marketing support.

Also... did T&M pay a site fee? I can guarantee you that GBP got a site fee from MGM.

                  Go beneath the surface.

Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen just did $6.5 million in gate revenues.

You guys have to understand. If Canelo vs Lopez wasn't on the same night, this fight would have done bigger numbers. Everybody that went to watch Canelo would have came and watched Chavez.
