  • How come Steve Smoger no longer gets big fights?

Wasn't that long ago he was spoken about as the top ref in the world by a lot of people, but in the last 3 years he's gotten few top level assignments. The biggest fight he did in 2016 was Lebedev-Ramirez, 2015 another Lebedev fight, 2014 Lara vs Ishe Smith.

Did he fuck somebody wife? Or make some mistakes I didn't hear about?

It's a good question, I wonder if promoters are scared of his ref style, of letting fighters basically get smashed to pieces.

I've seen smoger pick fighters up and lean them against the ropes and let their opponent land mortal combat fatality type of **** on these dudes.

I love smoger, but the guy is def dangerous.

Is it possible that maybe he declines them and wants lesser fights as his career comes to an end (assuming he's close to retirement)?

Otherwise it could be that commissions, sanctioning bodies and promoters are scared of his reffing style. Maybe after all the injuries that have gotten a lot of coverage in the last 5 years, commissions are careful about refs.

I don't know if it's the reason (I hope it is) but he was completely unprofessional and an absolute mess in the Hopkins v Murat fight. That was a disgraceful performance. I hope he never refs a world title fight again let alone a high profile bout.

because he doesn't stop fights unless a fighter has been fully decapitated

Exactly this. MF nearly got Roy Jones killed against Lebedev.

Because he wouldn't accept the bribes like the others did.

This is why commissions are looking for refs who care more about the fighters well being .
