In spite of his fame he is not very good at his job and still no boxing expert. Why does he always say down goes so and so whenever a fighter is knocked down? It's like he thinks he is the only one who knows the fighter was knocked down and the rest of us can't figure it out. Before he started announcing fights for HBO he was just a general sports announcer for sports like ice skating. At that time he knew nothing about boxing and has been learning on the job ever since. He is better now and more knowledgeable about boxing but still not very good even though he thinks he's great.

He's the ignorant commentator yet the most vocal one

The commentary in this fight wasn't particularly good. I thought they gave Manny more or less fair amounts of credit, but seemed to miss or not care about a decent portion of the work Bradley was doing. Reminded me of watching the UK broadcast of Garcia/Khan and how the commentators were acting like Garcia wasn't landing anything at all until the knockdown forced them to acknowledge it.

Because he doesn't call the action for the majority of the fight. Instead he spends most of the fight in conversation with the co-commentators, and then picks something out of the action that underlines whatever point they happen to be making.

This isn't something that's exclusive to Lampley. The Sky broadcast teams in the UK are terrible for it too. As are most of the non-Showtime PBC broadcasts. I exclude Showtime because they pretty much always have someone like Ranallo or Gus Johnson doing proper blow-by-blow commentary where the action gets called. And each fighter gets credit for his work. On most boxing broadcasts that doesn't happen and the A-sider typically gets way more credit than his opponent.

It's no conscious bias. It's just that they're only watching one guy.

Funny how some people never notice it until it's a Pacquiao fight though. How many of you mentioned it during the recent Broner fight, where Theophane would have 5-6 shots in a row completely ignored, but every single Broner shot would get a reaction.

Bradley had uphill battle last night. He wasn't accurate and lacks power. Some rounds he outright controlled but there was nothing impactful for them to specifically call.

So this is the first time you've seen Lampley criticized for this? Or only when Pacquiao fights? I find that hard to believe.

So much better watching it on Box Azteca w/ knowledgeable commentators and analyst
(JC Chavez) ...the best part: No Lampley...
