  • You thoughts on the career of Matthew Saad Muhammad

They should have named him Mathew "Drama" Muhammad

Seems like most if his fights were full of excitement & suspense win or lose...Dude had much heart and was always in the fight no matter what...

Muhammad had skills but they were overshadowed by the nature of his fights...Often times I was of the belief that his heart & will got in the way of better judgement...He would brawl instead of box, exchange when he should have been moving ect ect...

As a kid l recall feeling sorry for him when he faced Braxton....Epic beatdown....

I loved watching Saad Muhammad fight, what heart and power. The Matthew Saad Muhammad from his early title defenses would be dangerous in any era.

His losses to Braxton was when Saad Muhammad was on the downside of his career. He was also struggling to make the weight limit.

I agree Bear, Saad was one hell of a fighter from 1976-82 His uppercut that he KOd Lottie Mwale was incredible. Muhammad Ali was sitting ringside and said, "it was the hardest punch he ever seen in his life"..

Agree, a man that always entertained his audience.

But in the end, he had to pay a high price because of his style, taking too much punishment while sealing victories.

And in his later years, he condemned boxing as a sport.

The downside of boxing - when a warrior's glory days are over, few or none bother about his postcareer life. Promoters, trainers and we spectators move our focus to new, young and still undamaged entertainers.
