  • Was Aaron Pryor ducked by the "Big Three"?

We all know that Pryor's career went up in a haze of crack smoke after his second fight with Arguello thus he didn't have the longevity of his contemporaries...But I always wondered why Leonard, Duran, or Hearns never faced "The Hawk"?

I know he called all of them out at one time or another...

This has been talked about many times in this forum, but I will summarize it..

Duran offered the fight to Pryor but pryor rejected the first offer and then when offered it a 2nd time for more money he was willing to accept but only after his current managers contract had expired, by the time the managerial contract expired (8 months later) Duran had moved on..

Pryor and leonard had signed to fight each other but leonard retired in training camp due to eye problems. Pryor said he heard the news on the car radio, he pulled over and started crying..

A hearns fight never got close to being done

Pryor turned down a fight with Leonard. True story.

And he would have gone 0-3 as a pro against the names you mentioned.

The best thing that ever happened to Pryor was him not getting those fights.. His mythical status wouldnt be the same as it is today if he landed those fights..

This has been asked 246 times. Pryor was not considered a major star name until he beat Arguello and soon after that time Leonard was retired with a detached retna, Duran and Hearns were already fighting as light middleweights.

Arrangements were being made for Pryor to fight Leonard after Leonard defended against Roger Stafford but Leonard suffered the injury and never met Stafford, retiring instead.

the notion of those guys ducking him is absurd. those guys didn't give a fck who you were, they were fearless and had skills of the highest calibre.

Aaron was a damn good fighter, but none of those guys ducked Aaron, they had bigger fish to fry, especially Leonard. As mentioned beforehand, Aaron didn't truly get big beforehand until after the Arguello fight, and by then, Leonard was retired.Personally, I think McCrory, Curry, and Starling would've beaten him also.

I could see Curry & Starling possibly beating Pryor but McCrory would have a rough time...Starling & Curry were strong welterweights who would not have wilted under Pryor's relentless pressure...Milton had good power but physically I see him succumbing at some point...
