  • Comments Thread For: Smith: Abraham Knows He Lost, Promised Me Rematch!

Paul Smith is desperate to secure a rematch with WBO super-middleweight champion Arthur Abraham following his controversial defeat to the German-based Armenian over the weekend.

Abraham retained his 168lbs crown after a disputed unanimous decision victory over the British challenger in Kiel, Germany.

Scores of 117-110, 117-111 and 119-109 did not seem to reflect a tight encounter and the result was met with scorn from several commentators.

So he really thinks he won even two days after the fight? He should calm down, this is hilarious. Most of the media and most of the people as far as I saw it gave it to Abraham.
It seems like the guy is a natural born sour grape loser. He didn't deserve a rematch, but the referee who gave it 119-109deserves a ban. That's all, plain and simple.
I hope if the WBO will force the rematch Abraham will KTFO him... I reall don't like sour grape guys, except maybe JMM because he is also a proved warrior and a HOF member, but this guy is just a mediocre domestic level boxer who lost legitly to the champion and after that cry about a rematch what he didn't deserve and try to make out the too wide margin decision to an actual robbery and claims that he won...

smith is british level, he'd get ko'd by fielding so he's avoiding him, and the bbbofc arent enforcing theyre rules cause the belt should be vacant but smith acts like he's a big shot when he's a clown, eubank jr would ko him in 6 rounds, anyone who's any good would, murray even macklin.

As the saying goes, show me a good loser and I will show you a loser.

I don't think it was a robbery but Smith has every right to think he won. He has more of a case than 90% of the guys who cry robbery. Certainly more of a case than Maidana in Floyd I and II.

I can't believe this debate is still going on,Smith didnt do enough to win a world title against the weakest link holding a belt,he isn't ever going to be European level class let alone world class,he simply hasn't got it ! He should be happy he gave Abraham a good run for 8-9 rounds before failing.

            its over let go.

IMO neither of them has a case at all. On my card Maidana lost the first May fight to 115-113 and Smith lost 116-112. But neiher of them supposed to demand a rematch because they lost close but clearly. Maidana only got the rematch bacuse there weren't better choice around for Floyd not because Mayweather felt like he has to prove that he can beat Maidana. That was just the hype for the rematch.
Smith was more active but not that much and he wasn't accurate, his punches mainly hit Abraham's arm and gloves and I can't give him more credit for that. Abraham was lazy butnot that much as some peple saw it and actually when he was in offense he mostly broke through Smith's guard and hit his face. Sometimes mainly in the first half of the fight Smith responded with nice single shots but it's obviousthat Abraham never was staggered not like Smith who was bounced by Abraham plentyof times on the fight. I can really appreciate when a fighter outbox a naturally more powerful, puncher guy just look at some of my favourite fighters (Bradley, Ward, Rigo) but that wasn't the case with Smith and Abraham. I didn't feel that Smith is a more suprerior boxer than Abraham he was only a little more active but he didn't earn so much with that.
Abraham had the better defense, and better offense and also the way more effective punches. Smith had the workrate and he took a few round because of that but he still lost to 116-112 IMO.

Smith has every right to complain about the scoring.

He and his trainer both said that they wouldn't have complained if the fight had been scored to Abraham by 115-113. They said they would have accepted that even though they felt they won the fight.

Bottom line is the scoring was atrocious and Smith wasn't going to get the decision regardless of what happened. He has every right to be upset at not being given a fair chance on what was likely to be his only ever world title shot.

This is the deal!!! Smith fought better than we expected him to IMO.. But let's make it right he didn't win the fight?? The judges were a total disgrace I believe they should be banished from the sport as there can't be a place in boxing for judges to score like that.. This was a title fight?!?! The scoring was savage!!

Well done Paul hats off to you, you held your own But you lost.
