  • Iranian Navy Sending Ships to U.S Waters

    http://nation.foxnews.com/iran/2011/...near-us-waters

The Iranian navy plans to move naval vessels out of the Persian Gulf and into the Atlantic Ocean, "near maritime borders of the United States," the Tehran Times reported Tuesday.

According to the English-language paper based in Tehran, the announcement came from a top Iranian naval officer on Tuesday.

“As the global arrogance (forces of imperialism) have a (military) presence near our sea borders, we also plan to have a strong presence near the U.S. sea borders with the help of the soldiers who are loyal to the vali-e faqih (supreme jurisprudent),” said Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, as quoted and paraphrased by the Tehran Times.

"We've been pushing freedom of the seas for years and the Iranian navy can go wherever it wants," said Pentagon Spokesman Capt. John Kirby.

Iranians might face a challenge in refueling its fleet. Some in the Pentagon have speculated it could gas up in Venezuela, whose President, Hugo Chavez, is known to have a close relationship with Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The Iranians gave no indication of when or what kind of vessels they might deploy, but the announced plan comes just months after Iran sent warships through the Suez following the fall of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. It was the first time Iran had moved ships into the Mediterranean and the move put Israel on high alert.

    just political moves by tehran.

u.s. navy probably welcomes it too.

probably use it to justify additional financing for ships and aircraft in the next budget.

They welcome it as long as Russia and China dont enter the game:

"22 percent of Navy ships didn't pass their inspections in 2011. In 2007, just 8 percent of ships were rated as carrying junk equipment or insufficient spare parts. And more than half the Navy's deployed aircraft - the F/A-18 Hornets, the jamming EA-18G Growlers, the P-3C Orion surveillance plane - aren't ready for combat.

The Navy's surface fleet goes into the water banged up. Its aircraft carriers, frigates, destroyers spend nearly 40 percent of their deployment time with "at least one major equipment or systems failure,"

There was a report done that shows USA has even less "War" Usable ships and that more than half the ships have some sort of critical problems.

I think this is a ploy by the Americans working with Iran to :

      1) Iran showing its e-peen to its neighbours and citizens showing how tough they are to challenge the mighty infedels.

      2) For America to shove even more laws like the patriot act up the American Citizens asses and get them into more fear mongering. You guys still have a few civil liberties left, Obama and the Zionists cant have that, you need to be good citizens.

Or are you forgetting about your biggest enemy? You know those 14 year old Muslim kids with a $20 chinese Ak-47.

china is still a long way from being a threat. naval threat anyway.

they're trying to modernize its fleet and they're improving a lot but they still have a way to go.

russia is a threat because they have good subs. even at the height of the soviet navy during the cold war , their surface fleet was always more of a defensive force. they couldn't match the american carriers , so they depended more on their submarine forces and long range anti-ship bombers for offense. they lacked force projection BUT those subs/bombers were a threat to the u.s. navy's force projection.

i take news of american military shortcomings with a grain of salt.

america spends DOUBLE the money china , russia , france , britain and germany does COMBINED.

i just see all these negative news on military equipment or military readiness as a way for the u.s. military to justify all the money they spend.

remember all the news about how australian , swedish or iranian subs were sneaking up on the american navy fleets during exercises or deployments?

funny how it coincided around the time the u.s. navy was asking for funding for virginia class submarines.

or how about when the u.s. air force f-15's were "losing" dogfight exercises to the indian air force su-30's and british eurofighters?

funny how it was during the time the air force was fighting with congress about the f-22 budget.

You would be surprised how much Russia and China have been spending. Dont forget they dont publicize the amount of money they spend, they dont have 50 Governors debating every budget cut and inspection.

Russia is the only country to actually keep up with technology such as planes and subs. Thats why you either buying an American Plane or a Russian one.

America sells to its friends. Russia sells to anyone with money to protect itself from American friends.

Dont forget where all the original technology came from, the "Stealth" bombers and such was from a Russian Scientists who published papers and thesis how to make materials that wont be picked up from Radar, this was in the 50's or even 60's.

We have alot of smart scientists, and they havent stopped just because the Cold War finished.

and if Iran really wanted to mess with America they would just stay in International Waters on a shipping route and just start sinking huge ships carrying goods to America. That will screw up America for a few months and send economy into turmoil.

nah those numbers are based on "experts" estimates not on anything the russians reports or anything. but you are right that it doesn't quite tell the whole truth though. russian/chinese weapons are much cheaper than american ones to acquire and to maintain for the most part. so the actual figures doesn't quite tell the whole story. even accounting for ppp and the lower costs for the chinese/russians...... the u.s. still spends quite a bit more though and their militaries reflect it.

and no russia hasn't been able to keep up with the u.s. technologically. even in the soviet days they were behind in most things. post-soviet russia doesn't have the money and resources they did in the cold war. there are some things that the russians are more advanced at surface to air missiles and anti-ship missiles for examples but overall the west is still ahead of them in a lot of areas.

example: notice how russians spend so much more in developing and deploying surface to air missiles? they have the best air defense systems in the world. why? simple. to make up for what they see as their potential enemies (america/western europe) superior fighters. also why russian air to air missiles are bigger and have longer range than their western counterparts. to make up for what they perceive as the west superior radars , electronics , and stealth (f-22 raptor)/semi-stealth (eurofighter/rafale) capabilities.

another example: russian anti-ship missiles are much , much bigger , much faster and longer range than comparative american/nato anti-ship missiles. why? because the west doesn't depend on ship to ship missiles as much because of their super carriers (u.s.) and baby carriers (u.k./france/italy/spain).

russians have always had great inventors and theorists.

a lot of innovations in weapons were thought up by russian scientists and a lot of military doctrine was developed by russian military theorists.

problem is (even in the cold war days) they didn't have the capabilities , whether technologically or financially , to implement them.

a lot of the combined/assymetric warfare the american army/marines use now and before were based on russian/soviet doctrines. but with the short term conscript army of the past for the soviets as well as other factors they weren't able to develop as well as the west did with their longer serving professional troops.

Iran doesn't have the capability to sustain any amount of ships off our coast for any real period of time. They have a small navy and right now they spend most time protecting ships from pirates. This is political posturing and nothing else. I'd be surprise if they actually tried to go though with it. At most, they'll have to be resupplied by Venezuela.
