  • Cotto vs Mayorga: Cotto's path in 2011

March 12th kicks off Cotto's beginning in 2011 vs Ricardo Mayorga. The fight is taking place the same night as Sergio Martinez defends his title against Sergei Dzinziruk. I personally will be DVRing the Martinez fight and watching the Cotto fight live. I want thoughts serious ones as too where Cotto goes assuming he can beat Mayorga and look good doing it. I posted a blog and thred last year regarding Cotto's path and possible match up with Chavez Jr. I wanted to know if anyone thought that was possible.

Well it'll b the Marg rematch in the summer...

Personally Cotto is a small guy already for 154 IMO, Chavez fights at MW and I think without a doubt he could make 154, but he is much larger than Cotto, I would still love to see the fight though....

I can see a rematch looming in te near future with Margarito that would defintely be where the money is for him. I would think he would want to bury the ghosts of that loss in his mind for sure.

Cotto has the tools to demolish mayorga, good strong jab and good movement.

well yea the rematch is already in the talks anyway, for June-July time frame. Margarito got the ok to start training but not sparring, he is not taking a tune-up before Cotto either, which is VERY VERY stupid of him because for 1, a tune up will give him an assesment of where his eye stands, and 2, it will give him more confidence...

Does he deserve a shot, hell no, but I guarantee u, if he looses to Cotto, his career is over...

Can't wait for this one. I expect Cotto to look great against Mayo and set up the most anticipated rematch in recent history.

Cotto will beat Mayorga, look good doing it?, not so sure, Mayorga can make it a sloppy night for anybody, regardless of how disciplined you are as a fighter, he'll make you want to slug with him, not only because of his mouth, but his style.

If Cotto can focus on a tight guard, a crisp jab, and worry about the body work before anything, he can and will break him down in a brutal fashion, but something tells me that Cotto will try to head hunt to prove a point that he too can crack and it'll be much closer than it should because of this.

He'll beat him tho, and set up the rematch with Margarito for the summer, Margarito still needs to get his license some where other than TX, because Cotto will be asking for Yankee Stadium or MSG.

at the end of the year I want Cotto to go for it, challenge Martinez for his 160lb crown..I know Cotto is only 5'7 and it would be a big jump, but he'd make history!, 5 time Champion in 4 divisions, and beating someone like Martinez would make him a first ballot HOF fighter.

I don't want to see Cotto go out losing or winning a razor thin decision to a bum like JCCjr, or some other nobody ass 154lb fighter, if he's gonna go out, he needs to throw in all the chips and roll the dice, and I believe that would seal his 10 year legacy, just imagine

                  Bailey
                  Torres
                  Malignaggi
                  Quintana
                  Judah
                  Mosley
                  Margarito x2
                  Clottey
                  Pacquiao
                  Martinez

and having only lost 2 or maybe 3 depending on the Martinez out come and avenging his first loss against Margarito?!..that's a hell of a statement. Cotto deserves his respect, nobody can argue that.

I agree to an extent on where ur trying to go with this, but Fighting Martinez at 160???!!! NO NO NO!!!! Cotto is already small for 154 bro.....

If he has clean fights with Mayorga and Margarito and they don't turn into punishing wars, I think a fight with Chavez or some like a Martinez Caliber fighter fight will happen early 2012...
