So I didn't quite make the time limit, but I was fairly close, and I guess it's the number of films that matter most, right?
I did this because I feel that mainstream American filmmaking has become too unoriginal. Remakes, sequels and rip-off seem to be everywhere, and it's a bit crap, isn't it? So I wanted to see films that were more original and had fresh ideas, or at least fresh approaches to old ideas. In this respect it was a success.
Despite this, I think it would be silly to say Japan>America or anything like that.
It may well be the case, but it would be impossible for me to judge that from watching so few foreign films. Besides, there are still good films being made in America, you just have to be able to separate the wheat from the chaff.
I should note that none of the films I saw made it into my all time top 10, but several were good enough to make it into my top 10 foreign-language films.
Anyway...
Top 3's
3 films I enjoyed the most
Oldboy
Betty Blue
Tell No One
3 films I enjoyed the least
Teorema

Nathalie (The Bait) played by Marie Gillain
Aman's wife (Survive Style 5+) played by Reika Hashimoto
3 best fight scenes
The corridor fight (Oldboy)
The golf ball attack (Wasabi)
Man with chainsaw vs Nazi zombies (Dead Snow)
Regrets
Watching a film a day in a hard ask some days, but I do wish I'd managed it. Ah well.
I also wish I'd seen films from a wider variety of countries. My brother actually recommended an African film, and I also had in mind films from Israel, Palestine, Denmark, Hungary, Russia, Sweden and Romania, so I should've watched 2 or 3 less Japanese and Italian/French films and seen some of those instead.
As I got hold of a lot of films while choosing which ones to watch, I still have quite a few that I want to see, so I'll post about them when I get around to watching them, which will probably be sometime soon.
