  • Paul Williams gained 17 pounds in one day. HOW?!?

Paul Williams against Quintana weighed in at 146 3/4 and on fight night weighed 164. Could someone explain to me how it is possible to do this. I know fighters dehydrate, but it is impossible to dehydrate 17 pounds of fluid IMO?
I don't think its just dehydration and not eating on the day of the weigh-in thats the only thing he did. I want to know if there are other ways of cutting weight that I don't know of.

He probably didn't eat, dehydrated to the MAx, and took laxatives before the weigh in. Dehydration probably lost him about 10, laxatives 4, and not eating is the rest

yeah that's not completely unheard of. I think Guzman added around 15 pounds his last fight, Edison Miranda I think weighed in around 190 (at a supermiddle weight fight!), and there have been plenty of other examples.

Its probably more typical to gain around 5-10 pounds, but almost all fighters will add weight within that period.

It definitely might reflect some serious questions about Williams though and how difficult it is for him to make 147. It might be time to consider a higher weight class because I just don't think it's healthy and probably effects his power/stamina.

There was a lot of controversy over that, most of the witnesses at the weigh in said that Gatti was over the limit even at the weigh in, but whoever was doing it allowed him to step off.

They drink some type of drink, I would get the name in a minute..Personally i think its a disgrace when fighters like Williams, Clottey, Margarito..Gatti (use to do it) does this, There should be some regulation on this type of activities.

Fighters doesnt use laxatives, thats makes them too weak.
Starving, dehydration, even steam rooms (whats weakening too)
than after the weight in they get on IV
                  Or sometimes blooddope
You cant get that much weight just by eating and drinking,
but there are a few freak of nature

Well I don't think you should be blaming the fighters because just about everyone does it. It's the system that is in place.

I guess you need to ask why there is a 24 hour weigh in the first place, and what the pro's and con's are between 24 hour weigh in and same day weigh ins.
