we were talking about duran v mosley yesterday.
i would have to agree about hearns beating duran as much as i love duran i have hearns v cuevas and it was destruction + hearns was young & cuevas had a punchers rep.
i would say monzon would be too clever for hagler pity they never fought.
as for aguello v duran duran would have been too stong but you called it a war it nearly happened both sides tried to do a deal but duran move on to leonard
maybe at welter Duran may have a chance with hearn's.
but you & i know that Duran barely made weight for hearn's fight he had to shed 31 pounds i think it was in a very short time if he stood any chance of those huge rights from hearn's should have gotten into training camp earlier but as you say hearn's style was way too much for Duran & its the case especially 154 or 160 hearn's was very strong.
Duran believe all he had to do in his own words was put his fists on hearn's but he admitted that he caught him with a few & he took them great guy Duran the way he talks about that fight laughing at it.
as for hagler when i first saw i thought hagler won nearly every round i think the judges were too kind to Duran's legend Carlos monzon expected Duran to win that fight & larry merchant ask monzon how would he fare against hagler his reply was if hagler cant KO a blown up welter he has muscles every where but im full middle not like duran safe to say monzon reckoned he would beat hagler.
ps1 fight i would loved to have seen was Alexis arguello v Roberto Duran it could have happened & Alexis would have put Duran to test as lightweight king
i just watched DE Jesus -3 just a few Min's ago & Duran look a very improved boxer i have seen it before but all the duran talk i had to watch again
the 2 left hooks DE Jesus knock him down with expose flaws in his charge in like the light brigade style they were perfect.
i believe at welter Duran would have beaten hearn's as for hagler he was leading with 2 rounds to go & all he had to do was win 1 he couldn't Marvin closed the show because had great training camps as for Duran you know after Leonard-1 he would only make the weight.
but boxing needs Duran as much as Ali his story is great people too forget that he punched way above his weight beating Davey Moore & Iran Barkley who look like a light heavy when they fought his a legend but highly under rated by some & highly regarded by others.
i loved watching him because of the street fighter style he had
i totally agree he was student of the sport learning with every fight at lightweight de Jesus 3 showed a lot of his skills & Carlos palomino up at welter i thought were great performances by manos de peidra pity he didn't keep himself in prime shape for hearns & hagler his a legend but if he beat them no could deny his place in top 5 pound 4 pound of all time.i love watching duran and thank god the footage of his great fights are there his style is rare & we are blessed to see it
no, but williams would ko margarito, because margarito does not have the hand speed to even match cotto. williams would have margarito moving around the ring constantly missing because williams can slip anything margarito can throw. margarito can only brwl in fights he can;t do anything but that thats how he wns fights. sometimes i winder where margarito would be if he didn;t already beat cotto. Cotto was his ticket to the big time, and now that he has it, he won't let it go. Because he knows williams would ko him round 8 or 9. Williams has the handspeed to catch cotto too, his power is unrivaled and no one on the division can beat him he has the power of a light heavy weight to a heavy weight. He would ko cotto similar to quintana because cotto ko's quintana in round 5. In the end Clottey would beat williams because clottey can go to the body and destroy maragrito.
But in the end Gamboa beats them all via kncokout.
