well, i like Frank Q. quite a bit, but most things.. I just can't deal with them. Too many splash pages, too much trying to be "filmesque" rather than remaining a very good form of storytelling. As for Stan, he simply stayed with Marvel, whereas Jack didn't. He gets alot of unfair flack, because he made out better, but he didn't cheat or manipulate. Hey, I met Neal Adams too. We had a good little conversation about boxing and abstaining from drugs and alchohol. Didn't take my copy of Superman Vs Muhammad Ali to be signed, sadly, but did get him to sign an ESPN special magazine where he did a cover of Ali vs. Michael Jordan. Better than nothing.
oh yeah. I was blown away by Ladronn when I first saw his work. You are correct- he's like Mobieus, who is French, and Kirby. I'm not into anything modern just because it's nonsense, but I've been collecting alot of 40s-70s comics, and hardcover collections of them. Kirby's heirs def. deserve more than they've gotten, but none of it is Stan Lee's fault.
no, I'm just a fan of older stuff. I go to the NYComicCon every year, and thats also where I got to meet Michael Buffer. I entered a contest and was one of the top finalists, so I got to step into a faux-boxing ring and have Michael Buffer say my name. That doesn't happen every day!
Yeah his stuff with Ron Frenz was beautiful. I remember looking at that stuff when I was 8 or 9, and being attracted to the layouts and 'classic' look of it, not realizing it was Kirby-esque. Great stuff.
I really dont like RJJ coz he has too many flaws. People just dont see em coz Jones got talent, more than Floyd has. Yet RJ has makes too many fundamental mistakes eg, lunges for his left hooks, outbalanced often on his power shots, no jab, etc. Floyd was lucky enough to live in an era where the WW are comparable to the era of that of Leonard, he could have surpassed Leonard had he fought those guys. Strangely enough Id favor him over Cotto, Quintana, Clottey with a tossup between him and Mosley. Williams can be beaten by a guy who moves and uses angles. Light-hitting Martinez showed that. I do agree had Floyd lost the first time with Castillo he wouldn't have lost his courage. He's too paranoid with his 0. And coz of that boxing gets shortchanged.
Too bad he wasted his career ducking. When its all said and done he's gonna be RJJ. The dude *****-retired at a time when the WW was stacked. Undefeated proves nothing. Kostya, Spafa, Mosley, Marg, Cotto, Clottey, Quintana, had those names been in his resume he could have made the case for top10 ATG. Floyd is wasted talent.
