Not sure what category I fall into, if any it's probably soft-rock and country. Bob Seger, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Billy Joel and Dr Hook are my favourite artists. As you probably inferred I prefer true artists who are both singers and songwriters. Songs I like generally have good lyrical substance and conveys a message. I like it if the music has thought behind it and relates to the words being spoken as well.

yeah, i like pavement and silver jews, but i'm more of a dinosaur jr. and sebadoh man myself. built to spill are probably my favourite '90s alt-rock group, though.

kiarostami's films definitely tend to be slow, but he's such a great director and keen observer of humanity that i'm willing to endure it (and i feel the same way about bela tarr, even if it took me about four sittings to get through satantango). taste of cherry is an exceptionally powerful film, imo; almost bergman-esque.

haneke is fantastic. i've not seen amour yet, though -- how does it shape up to his earlier work, if you've seen it?

joy division are my favourite band and a minor obsession of mine. i enjoy post-punk in general, actually: the cure, the sound, echo & the bunnymen, comsat angels, et al. shoegaze, post-rock, alt-rock, romantic and neo-classical, ambient, edm, stuff like tom waits and '90s nick cave, and some hip-hop too. used to be into grime as a teenager but grew out of it.

directors i like are: tarkovsky, kieslowski, pasolini, bergman, ozu, scorsese, clouzot, kobayashi, teshigahara, malick, kiarostami, kar wai wong, lynch, aronofsky, and okamoto.

the lounge is pretty dull most of the time, i just skim it occasionally for anything related to film or music or books.

Yeah that'd be awesome if you were able to do that. I lack the creativity though.

No 100% sure really. I opted for Physics at Uni because I love the subject at school to the extent my interest/knowledge goes much further than the syllabus I need to learn. I figured Uni would go well if I chose a course that I'd enjoy and be enthusiastic about.

It would be great to contribute to some sort of scientific development, I think that would be the goal. However I hear Physics is one of those degrees people value for the skills you learn during the degree rather than the knowledge you actually acquire from it, so I think I'll be okay in terms of employment.
