By this point the United fans began celebrating, assuming that we had left it too late and that the title was theirs. They thought they'd won the title yet again.

Don't know if you're into football/soccer:

Basically, it was the final game of the season and we (Manchester City) just needed to win our game against QPR to win the title for the 1st time in 44 years. Manchester United (our cross-town arch rivals, think Mexico vs Puerto Rico x100) needed to win their game and hope that we were at least held to a draw. Both games started simultaneously, so were due to finish around the same time.

We were losing our game 2-1 with the 90 minutes on the clock and United were about to win their game, so with only about 3 minutes remaining (time added on for injuries), we needed to score TWO goals to take the title which is virtually unheard of. We managed to get a goal in about the 91st min to make it 2-2, but obviously this meant nothing as we needed to win the game.
