Mayweather is no Leonard, Hagler, Hearns, Duran, Arguello, or even Oscar(even though he got a win against Dela Hoya, most thought Oscar won). Those legends left a legacy for fighting the Best of the Best, multiple times, Win, Lose, or Draw. It wasn't about preserving a "0". It was about having the courage to step in against the best and see who comes out on top; the money would take care of itself. Shane Mosley has done the same thing. Ali did that better than anyone. Not Floyd Mayweather. He, like Roy Jones, Jr will never be held in that top etchelon of legend fighters. They wouldnt fight the best of the best, win, lose, or draw.
