The fight itself isn't what most boxing fans wanted. Canelo Alvarez-Liam Smith is well on its way, however, to becoming an unprecedented boxing event in the state of Texas. Oscar De La Hoya, whose company promotes Alvarez, said during a conference call this week that the September 17 card at the Dallas Cowboys' home stadium headlined by the Alvarez-Smith 154-pound championship match is on pace to out-perform each of Manny Pacquiao's two appearances at the venue in 2010.

I refuse to believe that the Mexican fan base is as gullible as Oscar thinks they are. This fight shouldn't sell any more than 250k ppv

If Canelo gets 50K to come through the gate, and 750K to buy the PPV, the event will be a success!

half the fans that show are there for the spectacle rather than the actual fight. mostly celebs that are there to be seen and locals looking to be seen by the celebs. facebook tagging and instagram. just to say they were there. blah blah blah.

Yeah I bet thinking about Canelo's PPV numbers makes De La Hoya mighty firm alright

I predicted Canelo would sell at least 50K tickets so I'm not surprised that he's already outsold Manny who did 40K at Cowboys stadium. It's a Mexican Holiday in texas! Most fans there don't have the money to spend to fly to Vegas where Canelo usually fights, stay in hotel for the weekend and buy expensive tickets. So this might be your only chance to ever seen Canelo fight. Most of the tickets here are affordable $50-$100 bucks.

Exactly. Plus don't sleep on how big being attached to "America's Team" Cowboys is. Great timing on the fight Sept 17, first game of the Cowboys season is at home on Sept 11 so you will see tons of fans at that game being exposed to advertising for the fight. Hell if they are smart they send Canelo and Oscar to the game to be a part of the coin toss or to do something for the half time show. They will get a huge boost in ticket sales from cowboy fans who probably never been to a boxing fight and thinking it's cool that cowboy stadium is hosting a big fight.

He does have the most ppv's sold of anyone in boxing currenty, so dela hoya has a point. That makes him the A-side in any negotiations with anyone in boxing, he should stay at 155 and collect all of the belts before he moves up...

Sorry De la hoya but in 3 to 5 years Verdejo will be bigger star than Canelo.
