The stories

Beyond the actual boxing, coaching and officiating, I've written a few things about amateur and professional boxing. One such series was in a Greater Victoria sports weekly called "The Sportcaster". That covered the years 1974 to 1983 with a focus primarily on amateur boxing
with a Greater Victoria story line.
Some of the headings:
1979: VICTORIA BOXERS WIN EMERALD GLOVES
1981: BALLENDINE IN CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
1980: BUCKSKIN BOY KO's THREE
1975: SILENT DANGER
1980: BALLENDINE - A SILVER BOY
1976: DYNAMITE DAN IS BACK
1980: THREE TRAVEL TO TRIPLE WIN
1976: CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING
1980: SEVENTIES BOXING BIRTH GROWTH COMMENDABLE
1975: O'SULLIVAN A CHAMP
1976: THE RUST IS REMOVED
1978: THREE NEW CHAMPIONS TO END '77 RIGHT
1978: AMATEUR BOXING
1981: BOXERS EARN VICTORIA PROMINENCE
1979: ROBINSON WINS NATIONAL SILVER
1982: ZELLEY'S ROUND: BOXING PLANNED FOR VICTORIA
1981: BALLENDINE NAMED BEST IN BC
1977: VICTORIANS WIN EIGHT OF NINE
Of course there were other media sources such as
the "Times-Colonist" - one of my contributions appeared in an pP-Ed piece on September 3, 1992 called:
"Counterpunch For Boxing": By Brian W. Zelley
- the opening line says it all -
"Despite many obstacles, the bruised and battered sport of amateur boxing survives..."
the closing line hits back:
"The anti-boxing zealots would better serve society
by putting their negative energy into building society
by reducing poverty, racism and crime."
with a Greater Victoria story line.
