Find detailed information about Dilantin

Posted 10-23-2011 at 08:11 PM by usaonline
Will the medication Dilantin cause a false positive for barbiturates? I had to take a drug screening and it came back positive for barbiturates. I take the anticonvulsant Dilantin. I want to know if the Dilantin could cause this to happen? I don't take anything other than the Dilantin.
Find pharmacy that can ship to UK/US/EU:Dilantin without prescription

i can't say for sure if it can or not. Call you pharmaacist and ask them. i am sure that they can tell you. When you do a drug screen they do ask about medications that you take both prescribed and otc. You need to let them know that you take Dilantin. Take you prescription bottle to them and they will make a copy of it.

From what I found, it looks like Dilantin could cause false positive for barbs. You should suggest that the test be redone and they should use a more specific test to differentiate Dilantin and barbs.See the website listed in the source below.Keep in mind to always let the medical staff know of all medications you're on, including herbals and over the counter drugs too.

What are the various uses and effects of Dilantin? I do not know the uses for Dilantin. Need advice, please. Can you tell me for what reasons Dilantin is prescribed? I know there are more than one. A relative of mine is a medical physician and he routinely prescribes Dilantin but he has moved recently so I cannot ask him.

Dilantin is a medicine used to treat seizure disorders (epilepsy)It can also be used to treat stroke and Alzeimer's disease/ brain tumorsAlcohol and drug abuseIt can cause mood changes, depression, anxiety -It should be monitored carefully by a dr.Some people experience suicidal thoughts -Altho, most people tolerate the drug fairly well.

What are the potential side effects for woman handling Dilantin capsules, from a reproductive stand point? My husband was just recently prescribed Dilantin for seizures, and he takes 300 mg's 2 times a day. I am handling the pills (small white capsules) for him, with bare hands. And I can not remember where I read it, but I am certain I read that it has potential birth defect and/or should not be handled by women who can become or are pregnant. My menstrual cycle is irregular since February, and I want to know if handling the Dilantin is affecting this.

thats all i can find i taking while pregnant, but handling it i don't believe would be the caused based on the infomation below. hope this helps.Dilantin may affect your developing baby if you take it during pregnancy. However, it is very important to control your fits while you are pregnant. If it is necessary for you to take Dilantin, your doctor can help you decide whether or not to take it during pregnancy. It is recommended that you do not breastfeed while taking Dilantin, as it may pass into breast milk and therefore there is a possibility thatthe breast-fed baby may be affected. If you do breastfeed, watch your baby carefully. If your baby develops a skin rash, becomes sleepy or has unusual symptoms, don't breastfeed again until you speak to your doctor.

Just handling Dilantin (phenytoin) should not pose any problems. It is not absorbed through the skin. It must be taken internally to cause any birth defects.

What are the other side effects of Dilantin? I've been taken dilantin for about 15 days and then I always feel dizzy and I walk like a drunk and I hear too dilantin can affect my liver and my teeth and gums.Is it true?

Is it normal for Dilantin to sap my energy? I have taken this medicine since age 6 (I am 38 now). It controls my seizures so that I can work and drive. However, Dilantin saps my energy to the point that yardwork (mowing the lawn with a push mower and weedeating, or cleaning the house) makes me tired for the next two days as if I have run a marathon. Also, my husband is on Dilantin, plus another seizure med, and his energy is sapped even more. We are not overweight. Is it normal for seizure medicines to sap energy?

Lethargy is a common side effect of Dilantin (phenytoin) because of the effects of the drug on your central nervous system. It's also possible that you could be suffering from anemia, another less common but possible side effect of the drug, which would also lead to fatigue. A simple blood test would tell you if you're anemic, and your doctor may prescribe folic acid if you are. HOWEVER, I would not suggest beginning folic acid therapy on your own before talking with a physician, because it may decrease the efficacy of dilantin.

What are the side effects/problems you can have from taking 400mgs of Dilantin? My body has been behaving strangely since I recently had an extra 100mgs added to my dosage. I need to know as many reported problems with Dilantin as possible, because all I can find are the side effects, nothing else. They are epilepsy pills I should add. Thank you Rosie.
