Cute.
I felt I would be in the minorty but Kweli is garbage. Out of respect for hip hop fans, I don't knock anyones opinions but he is just not that dude to me. Blackstar was half decent because of Mos Def and some ok production...
I listened to Reflections Eternal a few times to try and give him the benefit of the doubt and it was ass...his cameos are average, his songs are bull****. He is the most overrated MC at this moment. Cant get in to him at all.
His "lyrics", yea he says some witty ****, but the way he rides a track is not the hotness. Im from era where lyrics were matched with some charisma, which Kweli has none of. He is no better than the kid who pops freestyles on Brooklyn street corners.
Tha Greatest 12-23-2006, 03:53 AM Talib is the ****.
vloors 12-23-2006, 05:26 PM And who do you think is a good hiphop artist SCRAPPY DIGGS?
Tha Greatest 12-23-2006, 06:16 PM And who do you think is a good hiphop artist SCRAPPY DIGGS?
Mike JONES!!!!
vloors 12-23-2006, 07:25 PM He must be desprate to give out his real number on his album. Lame ass rapper.
TeamPac88 12-23-2006, 11:02 PM Nothing against the thread starter (everyone has an opinion) but what artists are you into at the moment?
tito yuca 12-24-2006, 01:28 AM Word up. Kweli is by far the most overrated rapper right now. This coming from a man who has Black Star as one of his all-time top 10 favorite albums. I also LOVE the original Soundbombing album. Train of Thought was great too, but when Quality dropped, it was anything but. He changed TOTALLY, no longer eloquent, thoughtful, or original. His lyrics are so wak it's actually unbelievable how poeple dickride his work. Actually, it's not. Let's break it down. An underground rapper who had realeased great material, all of a sudden releases a song that is VERY overproduced and has a postivie message. People who like bad music jump on his nuts cuz the track is "catchy" and has a positive message with simple lines and because in the past, he used to be a critically acclaimed lyricist, thus making his new fans seem like knowledgable rap fans. He's perfect for the mainstream rap fan who wants to receive respect from others as a conosseur of the ****.
Lines like "we go through episodes too, like attack of the clones" are laughable. Not only did he fall off lyrically, but also musically. Black Star and Train of Thought had very rich and original beats by Hi-Tek and others. After "Quality", he went more commercial and the beats were much more ordinary.
Seriously, I have not seen anyone fall off as hard. After releasing a classic, all-time great album, and a very good album, he drops a PATHETIC album and follows it up with an even more embarrasing one. Kweli is GARBAGE. He has not released a good song or even a good verse since the Train of Thought album.
Oh, and to those who say that those who don't like Kweli like ****ty rap music, my favorite album of all-time is Illmatic, followed by all the early Wu CDs. I have a rap collection of over 300 CD's that I've BOUGHT in more than 7 years. Everything from Ultramagnetic MC's to Big L and Madlib to Atmosphere. My favorite rappers at the moment are Murs, Mr. Lif, Juggaknots, Ghostface, and I hate Jeezy, T.I., and Crunk.

Finally, at least someone agrees. Had no idea Talib was that revered by folks....kinda shocked actually that only one person seems to be on the same page with me.
I mean I am from Brooklyn and just don't feel dude. His delivery don't grab me whatsoever, and after a few tracks of his in a row hes practically unbearable to me. I find him incredibly dull. Yea hes came out with some witty lines here and there but believe me when I say hes no better than hungry local artists trying to get put on. He just aint hot to my ears, he is sickly overrated man. I ****s with MosDef, not Kweli.
Nothing against the thread starter (everyone has an opinion) but what artists are you into at the moment?
Pac, I am one of those cats who grew up in the early/mid 90s who has definitely felt the impact of the demise of hip hop...Not too many new artists do I give dap too or even willing to get their album.
Other than all the gold classic tracks/albums from 91-98 some of the newer stuff rotating on the ipod right now is: AZ's 'The Format', Nas 'Hip Hop is Dead', Jay-Z 'Kingdom Come', Game album, Sean Price 'Monkey Bars', Consequence 'Take em to the Cleaners', Busta new album, Ghostface 'More Fish'...Ironically mostly all artists that been out for a min. I rock the new mix cds, and grab hot tracks im feelin but hasn't been too many artists that have came up in recent years that are ill to me. Not feelin Papoose...Lupe Fiasco, etc.
God will not have mercy on your soul. He will send you straight to hell for this blasphemy. Now go listen to some laffy taffy and shoot yourself.
-Antonio- 12-29-2006, 03:10 AM I guess I just have to say I disagree. Tito I feel you are overexagerating since Quality and Beautiful Struggle were both given great reviews from most magazines, websites, etc. To say his last few cds are garbage is just sad imo. Atleast you acknowledge Train of Thought was great.

I explained already why I feel those albums and Kweli were so acclaimed. Also, I couldn't give a **** what others say. I consider myself to be extremely knowledgable of rap music and a possesor of great taste, so I formulate my own opinions. And anyway, Beautiful Struggle received very mixed reviews, and to my understanding, none of them said it was a great album.
You say it's "sad" that I said he's garbage. Well, post any of his post-Train of Though verses here that you think are "great", and explain to me why. I'd love for someone to break this down to me.
-Antonio- 12-29-2006, 12:34 PM Id actually love for you to put up some songs and explain why they are "pathetic". The line you gave for an example off of Get By is not even a bad line. Matter of fact I just downloaded a mix compiled by hip hop fans that had it on their list of the best songs ever. I commend Kweli on that for sticking to his roots and still being able to have a hit on the charts.
Quality wasnt comercial in my eyes, although I havent heard the full album in two years. Beautiful Struggle was a shot at the mainstream, I agree. Some of the songs were all wrong for him, but most of them were very good imo. Ghetto Snow, Never Been in Love, Beautiful Struggle, Black Girl Pain, the song he did with Faith, among others are anything but garbage. His Mixtape he released after had some quality **** on it too. Ms. Hill was a very good song.
tito yuca 12-29-2006, 12:40 PM The line you gave for an example off of Get By is not even a bad line.
I should've stopped reading right there. Compare that to some of his lines on the Black Star album. Actually, compare them to ANY of his lines from that, and if you don't see that as falling off, then you're one of the people I mentioned in my first post.
Quality wasnt comercial in my eyes, although I havent heard the full album in two years.
Get by was (over)produced by Kanye. Look at other songs like Rush, etc. How anyone can say these are not commercial songs is beyond me. Even the critics themselves have said this was a commercial album, since you seem to be all high on them. Really, do Get By and Fortified Live sound the same to you?
tito yuca 12-29-2006, 01:45 PM Quality was also pathetic, and the first two albums DO NOT make up for them. He started to fall off on Train on Thought, if you listen closely, he isn't rhyming as impressively on that album as he did before, but the drastic falloff was from Train of Thought to Quality. After that, everything he has done is pathetic. And since he has released more stuff since Quality than before it, His first 2 albums do not make up for how lame he is now.
oldgringo 12-29-2006, 03:13 PM Hilarious. How anybody calls "get by" an overproduced track or a "bad" song just makes me laugh.
Calling a song garbage because it contains one bad lyric is just sensationalizing. It's fine to not like an artist outright, but to call an artist like kweli who has put in a lot of good work "garbage" is just laughable to me.
Quality was a solid album...not a classic but a solid release after a classic (which is usually how **** goes). Nobody was calling Nasir garbage when he went from Nastradamus to I Am...a couple of less than stellar releases...
Get By was a good song, the unreleased version of Shock Body is the ****, Joy was a nice song, Guerilla Monsoon Rap was a dope track, G2Y was nice (even though it was too similar to GMR), and Stand To The Side was a very thought provoking track.
-Antonio- 12-29-2006, 04:19 PM Do you expect perfection? If you dont think Quality and Beautiful Struggle are ATLEAST solid lyrically then wtf is?
"We go through episodes too, like attack of the clones."
A simple similie that makes sense. Nothing worth going crazy over.
-Antonio- 12-29-2006, 04:19 PM Im just a fan of Kweli so I take offense to calling is stuff garbage.
Knicksman20 01-10-2007, 07:42 PM Kweli is my favorite rapper right now. Train Of Thought is a classic album. I even saw him & Hi-Tek in concert along with Common & Mos Def back in 2001. Songs like Too Late, Love Language, & The Blast; that's the essence of rap. His newer stuff is more mainstream I agree but garbage; that's a little harsh.
Greatest_D 01-10-2007, 08:31 PM Nah, can't say I agree in the least. While his latest stuff isn't anywhere the quality of his earlier stuff, he still tears down mics. The only problem with his albums is they lack the finishing touch that Reflection Eternal had. I don't know why he seems to be avoiding guys like Hi-Tek or Premo.
