it was awesome how he'd throw a combination of lethal,accurate haymakers from all angles
it was real tite watching him fight
remember pipino cuevas?
how he was staggering n then gets dropped that quick!

aspect 11-28-2006, 03:49 AM tyson on his prime.the combinations and the tech iques he "used" to have when he was young combine with the power of a real slugger.he would have been unstoppable.

It comes down to personal taste. Ive always liked Hagler punches. His southpaw jab was perfect.
Plus Joe Louis was text book.
And Nigel Benns big shots were thrown beautifully.

But Tyson had the handspeed and ability to throw 4-5-and 6 punch combos with blazing speed, uncanny variety and technique.

Or should I say caused more damage given fighters they faced in my opinion had better defensive techiques. I would argue the agresive style of Tyson to be a favorite to. true! dempsey was also almost as quick as tyson and at least as powerful
i think hearns cross is the best punch though because of its combination of speed accuracy and of course POWER! i'm working on acquiring that punch!

However, you could argue in favour of many of the great boxers, there is no correct answer to this question which makes it a good one. Nice thread.
Mistadobalina 12-06-2006, 04:33 AM in terms of the ideal puncher's STYLE... as in if i had natural dynamite in my hands and i had to pick a body type and primary form of delivery, i think it doesn't get any better than hearns.
blazing fast hands, and most importantly a slicing, rapid fire jab that'd keep the other guy out of his punching range, while at the same time being caught on the end of yours. the perfect offensive machine when needed to be.
tyson's style could get offset by grabbers, and i don't like the fact that you have to always be on the front foot constantly.

Good point about Tyson, I don't want to piss anyone off but I think Tyson is overrated anyway. Yes he was a scary animal but we didn't get to see him fulfill his potential.

Again I agree with M26, that Joe Louis had the best punching style. His combos where fast ,accurate, and very deadly. Joe knew when it was time for you to go, and when the combos came they did indeed go.

Joe Louis could produce a fight ending punch at any time in a 15 round fight because his style did not tire him very much compared to other greats. He paced himself better than maybe any other heavyweight champion and had perfect technique and leverage behind his punches. Unlike Dempsey, Tyson, and Foreman, who's power faded in the later rounds, Louis could end it all at any point.

he was very VERY good at feinting and drawing, few boxers have ever been as good at inring strategy
