View Full Version : Okay, so like, I think I spent too much on this girl's gift.
GhosT^x0 12-23-2002, 12:24 PM I don't want to come off as desperate for spending too much on her, and I fear that I may... I've only been on a couple of dates with this girl, but we talk on the phone often... and well, I was out last night shopping and I couldn't help but think about her when I saw this one particular something... only real problem is that it was close to $100.
I'm lookin for the ladies' collective opinion on this one.
Allison 12-23-2002, 12:27 PM I'm thinking obsessive pasty psychopath. She may wrap up a restraining order for you.
**** that is alot..lol, I've never spent that much on someone..lol
Bella 12-23-2002, 12:28 PM I'm with Allison on this one.
GhosT^x0 12-23-2002, 12:29 PM ****.
This sucks.
Bella 12-23-2002, 12:32 PM What did you get her?
GhosT^x0 12-23-2002, 12:42 PM *Editted, cuz if you know, you know, and if you don't, you don't need to.*
Lei Tong 12-23-2002, 12:55 PM Something tells me that if any other guy you knew did something like this, you'd completely chew them out.
GhosT^x0 12-23-2002, 12:57 PM Probably.

casp3r 12-23-2002, 01:02 PM at least it wasn't a $3k ring that you have the pleasure of seeing sit there now after the fact =) always look at the bright side
Next time you want to waste 100 call me first please.
GhosT^x0 12-23-2002, 01:09 PM None of you have offered any support whatsoever.
Thanks.
ITs...ok....Ghost.....it ....could...happen...to anyone.....
If...there...is...anything......I .....can....do......for....you.
put 'em up 12-23-2002, 01:19 PM I think you did just fine, ghost - $100 is not that much!
Bella 12-23-2002, 01:20 PM That's a nice gift, Dave, but do you think it's really necessary to give it to someone you've only been on a date with a few times? Honestly.
I'm not trying to diss you or telling you it's a stupid idea or anything, I just personally think its too early to be concerned with buying each other gifts. Is she getting you something? Is this something you have dicussed with her prior?
put 'em up 12-23-2002, 01:20 PM plus you are cute - she's lucky!
Bella 12-23-2002, 01:22 PM Well, looks aren't everything.
put 'em up 12-23-2002, 01:22 PM it's not?? well, ****! :)
GhosT^x0 12-23-2002, 01:27 PM She told me last night when we talked on the phone (till 3am) that she'd bought me something. I told her I was relieved that she had, because I felt obsessive for buying her something so early on in things between us. She laughed, and reminded me that she bought me stuff last time we went out.
Bella 12-23-2002, 01:29 PM Well, then maybe it's a good idea. I think you should go ahead and give it to her then. Things will work out for the best either way.
BTW, is she hot? :devil
put 'em up 12-23-2002, 01:29 PM nothing wrong with being a giver - I'm extremely generous & I can't stand a selfish man!
Bella 12-23-2002, 01:31 PM I like shopping for others as well, especially people I really care about. I'd rather buy someone else something instead of myself.

It really isn't... but for the occasion, considering the circumstances... maybe kinda excessive?
Lei Tong 12-23-2002, 01:35 PM Nevermind...

I don't think so - now stop worrying! :)

She's got this long, straight blonde hair, and these piercing blue doe eyes.... mmmmm. Trim, slender, perfect height.... and she's all personality (a scorpio like me).
Lei Tong 12-23-2002, 01:39 PM "Jesus, Frank! You're looking at her like she's your mother!"

:)

you don't even know her - you just wish to gawd you did!
we were argueing about this on another board - gals feeling sorry for poor Ben - poor Ben - my ass - almost any man in America would trade places with poor Ben! :)
Lei Tong 12-23-2002, 02:07 PM You're right, I don't know her personally... but her public actions are quickly getting on the "Use 'Em & Leave 'Em" plateau set by the likes of Julia Roberts.
put 'em up 12-23-2002, 02:09 PM and if you were suddenly the heart throb of America - you wouldn't use 'em & lose 'em - I suppose?
put 'em up 12-23-2002, 02:10 PM men came up with that theory a looooooooonnnnnng time ago!
Lei Tong 12-23-2002, 02:19 PM SInce I'll never be in that position, my word ain't worth much, but I'd like to think I respect people (and myself) too much to do something like that.
Also, I wouldn't claim to still be the same guy from Compton while wearing jewelery more expensive than all the houses on my grandma's street combined.

Goodness... sorry about the delay in this reply... just got off a 40 minute call. I'll make the reply worthy.
My friend's girlfriend (Sarah).... they take astronomy together. She thought that her friend "needed to meet a guy like me". I was over visting Darren (my friend, Sarah's boyfriend) one night, and we got to discussing the whole "Dave's love life" thing, which in hindsight, hasn't seen the highest of heights in 2002. She mentions this particular girl... says she's great, just the type of girl I'd have fun with, etc. etc. This is on a Sunday night, and honestly, I thought nothing of it at the time.
Thursday night, my phone rings, and it's a girl I've never met before. Turns out it's the best friend of the girl Sarah had told me about, and she's asking me to be somewhere for a dinner date in 45 minutes. Luckily I was all dolled up cuz of my after-boxing-class shower (I usually do my hair right back up, throw on the cologne, etc etc... even if I'm just dressin up to go to sleep in a couple hours... I know, I'm weird)... so I got my shoes on and hit the door. Got to TGIFriiday's right about 8:15, met her... we talked, we laughed, we exchanged numbers... stayed there till about 1:30am. Liked her at this point.
Next time we got together, her and her friends (Sarah, her best friend accompanied by boyfriend, and Sarah) all came over for dinner and a movie. I cooked a really good sczechwan vegetable dish with filleted chicken and brown rice (mmm) to impress them, and it worked. During the course of this evening, an issue arised between best friend and best friend's boyfriend, and I stepped in to offer a solution to it, which went over REALLY well. So well, as a matter of fact, that I feel I went down in the pages of that evening as King Kock for my efforts. She stayed until 3am. We talked more, we got to know each other much better, and we kised the first time. :)
Between the time of this meeting, we talked a lot.... the whole "getting to know each other" phase. We'd talk on the phone sometimes till 2 or 3 in the morning, even though we both had to be up waaaay early the next day. We did this several times.
Next time we went out (which was the last time), we met for dinner and shopping. She bought me a gift, and I bought dinner (fair, right? ;) ) This time was just slightly more awesome, as we probably kissed for about an hour straight in the parking lot upon saying our goodbyes for the evening, which was preceeded by a different kiss that probably lasted about half as long. It was rather nice. Great kisser, too. Since then, I've been playing hard to get, and it's worked. She's initiated the last 3 contacts we've had since that night, and each time, we've talked for hours.
All things considered... as I type over this... I don't feel nearly as obsessive for buying her the gift I did. Everyone who naysay'ed on Hojak can die, except the ladies, because they are beautiful and I love them all.
Tammy 12-23-2002, 02:33 PM :)
GhosT^x0 12-23-2002, 02:33 PM Especially Tammy.
Tammy 12-23-2002, 02:36 PM Thank you
Tammy 12-23-2002, 02:37 PM I'm very happy for you. I could tell how happy you were last weekend that I'm glad everything is working out.
Lei Tong 12-23-2002, 02:37 PM "she"
What a lovely name.
GhosT^x0 12-23-2002, 02:38 PM Play no games, say no names.
Thank you Tammy. :)
Aaron Bizarre 12-23-2002, 02:39 PM I say go for it Dave. its just money and 100 bucks aint gonna put you out to dry. I have also yet to see a girl be weirded out by a nice gift.
Lei Tong 12-23-2002, 02:41 PM Yay, I'm in a sig!
Aaron Bizarre 12-23-2002, 02:42 PM it couldnt fit JLo any better and it made me spit water on my keyboard.
put 'em up 12-23-2002, 02:50 PM I think it is amazing how judgemental & jealous people are when someone does so well - whether it be in acting or singing or in her case, both - I wish her well - that goes for anyone who works hard & has a lot to show for it.
No lie $100 is alot for a relationship that its on its beginning stages, but the gift itself doesnt commit so much as to cause strain...yes its expensive but its a simple gift...like a previous post if it was jewelry or something more personal then I would say yeah... not a good idea...of course this is her perfume of choice right?
put 'em up 12-23-2002, 02:52 PM not to mention, she is drop dead gorgeous!

VulgarTheClown 12-23-2002, 03:42 PM av's are 150x150? **** i got mine at 100
Bella 12-23-2002, 08:56 PM Dave, that sounds great. No worries about the delayed reply. Sounds like you're a happy camper. I'm happy for you. I hope everything works out as you wish as well. The gift isn't a bad idea. I'm sure she will love it. I don't know what else to say except, good luck. :)
VeneTKD 12-24-2002, 09:11 PM Damn Dave..you are rich dude. I would not ever spend 100 buck in somebody i don't even know that well. 40 bucks is abotu right and you can get soem nice stuff. You just have to be a little creative. 100 bucks this soon will do a bad effect because then she will expect better **** as time goes by. Well you are a smart kid and if you have deep pockets then you can afford that stuff. good luck though.
