lil wayne is a low caliber rapper and is not underrated in my opinion. see, i've been listening to rap for well over a decade, so i have a large scale on which i can compare rappers to. and i have heard it all. from horrorcore to club style. lil wayne is not lyrically gifted. yeah, i've heard worse, but i've also heard much, much better.

I use to skip every Weezy song except for Shine because lets be honest he used to be horrible. I remember when Tha Carter 2 came out and I heard so much about it, but I still didnt give it a chance until early this summer, and I listen to it weekly now. Is he really the best, like he and a lot of other people claim? Hell no, but he can switch his flow up like crazy and he has some nice lines. Hes improved a long ways in my book.

His verse on Gettin Some Head remix is a classic.

I think he has the south locked for newer guys. He overshadows TI, Jeezy, Luda (even though he may be better lyrically), and all of the other new dudes. He doesnt have the status of a UGK, Kast or Face but he still is 24. People get better with age.

lil wayne is a low caliber rapper and is not underrated in my opinion. see, i've been listening to rap for well over a decade, so i have a large scale on which i can compare rappers to. and i have heard it all. from horrorcore to club style. lil wayne is not lyrically gifted. yeah, i've heard worse, but i've also heard much, much better.

Illmatic is considered pretty much universally one of the greatest albums of all time. I don't think any of those albums you mentioned except for maybe carter 2 were even considered album of the year.

Big deal...never said before in the history of rap...Most of what he says is new the the industry...All that Nas is doing, Pac done in his 25 years....But no one calls Nas lame..Wayne is keeping this industry flowing as of now...Radio play would be nothing without Wayne...The underground game, everywhere but the South, would be dead...Boys wouldn't sell if Wayne wasn't on the album...Hell check Birdman, wackest rapper on the face of the earth but with Wayne he make GREAT MUSIC...

I can't believe this thread has gone on for 12 pages. Wayne isn't the best rapper alive let alone in the south. I agree that Wayne has improved considerably, but he is sometimes hit and miss. Nowadays whenever Wayne is on a track I grow in anticipation of what kind of verse he's gonna drop. Somestime he would drop some dope lines but on the other hand he drops some bad ones too, he's inconsistant. To all the Wayne fans, I like Wayne but you're just overrating him to levels he hasn't even reached.

An example of good:
