I want to know how to construct a heavy bag that weighs like 250 pounds, I read somewhere that boxers sometimes train on a really heavy punching bag because it allows you to hit harder. Since I would be studying more boxing and muay thai, as opposed to brazilian jiu jitsu, I would depend more on my striking. Also, what is some good equipment to train muay thai and grappling? Like the uppercut heavy bag, is it even worth using? Or the grappling dummy, is it worth it as well?

rocky marciano used to punch a specially made 300 pound bag ( i don't know who made it for him ). he was a very hard hitter. joe frazier said once in an interview he made his own bags out of granny's mattress, corncobs, a gunny sack full of sand, etc.

the heaviest bag i've used was a 100+ lb water filled bag, damn that thing was fun to hit, but not so fun to hang up.

whatever u make the thing out of, i'd get some tough material like canvas or something that can carry a lot of weight and won't rip.

I have a wavemaster freestanding punching bag and a regular BOB punching bag as well, both I use for striking. I also have a 70 pound Everlast bag, that I use for ground and pound, I just recently started using it for ground and pound, man I didnt know it took that much energy to do it.

But honestly I dont know if the wavemaster, which weighs 270 pounds filled with sand, is the same as a 270 pound heavy bag. I mean all the weight is in the bottom of the stand, as opposed to the whole thing weighing that much. Do you guys feel there is much of a difference? Basically I just really want to be able to hit hard.

Also what kind of things can I do to strengthen my standing control, basically I have seen people attach themselves to ropes, then try to run while someone holds them back, I just saw Monson training with some kind of machine that had resistance bands atached all over him and it was doing the same thing, except they said a human couldnt do the same amount of resistance. What kind of exercises could I do in order to train this, but without the help of someone?

I am always training on my own, eventually I will start training with a friend, but that wont be for a few months. Thanks for any help.
