MMA GETS “60 MINUTES” TREATMENT
By Loretta Hunt
Mixed martial arts will go under the “60 Minutes” microscope in the coming weeks. The reputable CBS news show will air a segment on the exploding sport as early as Sunday, November 19, The Fight Network has learned.
In September, “60 Minutes” crews attended both UFC 60’s “Hughes vs. Gracie” event in Los Angeles, California and the International Fight League’s World Team Championships Quarter-Finals in Moline, Illinois, which featured a superfight between Pat Miletich and Renzo Gracie.
“They were interested, willing to get into it, and able to look deeper than the 'human-cockfighting' aspect. It's hard to say for sure, but they seemed interested in the sport and the athletes, not some sensational muckraking journalism,” says writer and fight enthusiast Sam Sheridan, who advised on the project.
Sheridan is author of “A Fighter’s Heart: One Man’s Journey Through The World of Fighting,” due out in bookstores in February.
This is why i hate mismatches in the UFC, hughes vs gracie is an easy one for any critic of the sport to pick apart.. Thank god they're gonna feature IFL as well to give the sport some credibility back.
