Who would win? Keep in mind that McClellan did once beat Jones in the amateur ranks, and that Manny Steward believed McClellan would KO Jones. I think McClellan would have KOed Benn if not for the referee.

View Full Version : Gerald McClellan vs Roy Jones Jr. BigMKO 10-31-2006, 07:02 AM Who would win? Keep in mind that McClellan did once beat Jones in the amateur ranks, and that Manny Steward believed McClellan would KO Jones. I think McClellan would have KOed Benn if not for the referee. Yaman 10-31-2006, 07:16 AM Jones survives Gman's bomb early, takes him further than he expected, and outboxes him late. No ko in this fight. BigMKO 10-31-2006, 07:20 AM If McClellan connects with a straight right hand on the chin though, Jones is gone IMO. Tarver could punch nowhere near as hard as McClellan and Johnson couldn't punch as hard either. K-DOGG 10-31-2006, 07:30 PM Jones survives Gman's bomb early, takes him further than he expected, and outboxes him late. No ko in this fight. This I'd have to agree with. McClellan would be all over Jones early, and I can even see both men visiting the canvas; but, in the end, Jones hand and foot speed take him across the finish line with a close decision. Dye 10-31-2006, 07:33 PM nigel benn beat G-man fair and square so Jones wins a 12 round UD wmute 10-31-2006, 08:44 PM Jones by UD Brockton Lip 10-31-2006, 08:54 PM McClellan by late KO or UD. GEOFFHAYES 11-01-2006, 01:31 PM McClellan takes him. GEOFFHAYES 11-01-2006, 01:32 PM nigel benn beat G-man fair and square so Jones wins a 12 round UD Nice logic. Dye 11-01-2006, 03:49 PM Nice logic. LOL thanks:nonono: OASIS_LAD 11-01-2006, 03:53 PM id say jones stays on the back foot and outboxes mcclellan but g man would eventually catch up with jones and ko him late GEOFFHAYES 11-01-2006, 05:22 PM Actually it's difficult to say, McClellan was abit of an unknown quantity - untested. His time was to come.. He hadn't really proved himself. Jackson 1 aside (he admtitted after first Jackson fight that it was his sloppiest performance because he'd never been on as big a stage as that before and was nervy), he was looking unbeatable, but not really tested. It's just difficult to say really, McClellan did beat Jones on points at the '88 Golden Gloves (Jones struggled to get off the ropes), and from what we saw of him he did look like an awesome ****ing puncher with amazing timing and extremely heavy hands, who could use his jab well as a range finder and could use the ring well too, and one of the best three body-punchers ever. But his career was over before it really began. So who knows?
