well ti wasn't all swimming
I did
5 laps breast stroke
5 laps back stroke
5 laps like that frog one
i did some shadow boxing
like 100 roundhouse and push kicks
that **** is alot harder to do under water try it!

VulgarTheClown 06-01-2003, 09:05 PM i have natural grappling ability. i pick **** up really fast, my application takes a bit of time mabye 2 or 3 practices but once i get it its in. So i would say i definately got natural ability.
submission_guy 06-09-2003, 09:40 AM i have never had a grppling lesson in my life. i have trained boxing mt for like 3 years but i prefer to grapple any day. it just seems ot come natural.if only i had bjj here :(

I need to stop being so timid with my shooting.
I am worried about getting reversed yet is i get shot on and taken down i could be in a worse position than if reversed.

I got choked out with a Gi choke. I hate Gi chokes. mostly cause i do not know them.
I got took down well not really i over under hooked a guy but he had my leg and i felt him lifting so i grabbed guard and got slammed.
I'm worried about NAGA this saturday, not that i'm worried i'm gonan lose but i'm worried i will make my instructor look bad.
I know i have only been training for 4 months but i expect alot of myself and if i lose i would see myself really gettin down on me and gettin all sorts of depressed.

I was very productive i had attempt after attmpt after attempt but no success with the submission.
I am getting better at my triangle defense the 6'6" guy is having to work for it now.
god i'm just so frustrated! you ever get the feeling where you just wanan yell and kick **** and ****in storm out but you can't so you feel it growing in side you an your like **** and you just want to break down cause your so fed up with failing at your own goals which you always do because you set yourself at the standard of like a purple when your only a white
I strive so hrd and expect so much of myself i put myself out of my own league.
GOD SO FRUSTRATED!

He is much stronger than me, He shoots i try to grab guard on the way down he brushes past it and takes side. he sits in side. and sits. and sits some more. he goes to 100 kilos (North/South) and sits some more, the whole time i got my arm trapped TIGHT. Edson is yelling for me to use my arm I CAN"T USE AN ARM THATS ****ING TRAPPED! Cuban guy tries for armbar.

I was so pissed i almost left! I was nearly in tears i was so mad at myself. I decided to stick around in case they have me fight for 3rd/4th.
I get called up to fight for 3rd/4th place.
Ben is mad. Ben's opponent = PWN3D!
I get in the ring with some white dude.
they say go. BEN GOES! I grab wrist switch to arm drag grab a single. he hips out body lock and trip Ben is in 1/2 guard top.
I bounce a bit and pass 1/2 guard to mount. pwned.
from here i work a bit of americana I hear Carlos off in the corner (the new guy on the forum) he tells me switch to knee on stomach.
I switch. owned, Carlos yells go to 100 kilos. I switch. owned. go to side. i switch. owned. i go back to mount. owned
the dude starts tryin to buck me off that ****s a no go. owned. I could have gone to armbar from mount or from knee on stomach but i was so nervous from just losing i was lose on capitalizing my openings.
I won on points.
I hate point fighting.
i took 3rd.

If there is one thing in life that I am its consistant.
I'm always on time, I never lie and i think something new might have been added.
That would be placng 3rd and babye that i will never lose to a sub but will always win by them.
So I went to the tournie today with no expectations. I actually expacted to get Gi choked in like 5 sec.
I was semi nervous,
I get out on the mat and my opponent had just gotten off the podium for winning a silver in the masters or something.
he comes over we shake and go at it.
I hop guard but get one of my feet caught and he passes. he sits in side mount for a bid goes to 100 kilos whatever goes for americana NO i roll to my knees grab his pants put him on his backand as soon as that he is tapping my americana. OWNED
next i gotta fight the same dude i lost to yesterday. no big thing. I hop guard again and again got my foot caught (mabye i should stop hoppin guard) he passes and sits in 100 kilos for 4 min.
he told me afterward the way i handled his submissions yesterday he wasn't gonna risk it cause he would have lost.
the ruf should have stood us up for him stalling but oh well.
then i fight again for 3rd place this time
we grip up i do some foot sweeps he does some foot sweepsand i go for a big foot sweep he keeps his balance and in turn tries to hip throw me. BIG MISTAKE!
I bodylock and step behind him. let me ask you who can spell suplex? this 256lbs kid goes up. WAY UP and down REAL HARD. my 220lbs ass SLAMMED this big dude like he aint ****. i imediately take side controll and work for yet another americana. it was a no go, i go to knee on stomach but he rolls, so i take his back and try to gi choke himit would have worked but he rolled again and i take mount, edson starts yellin at me about gi chokes, ben says **** gi chokes they are gay. i notice my hand placement and see my oportunity and i do a picture perfect armbar. he taps. owned.
i take 3rd place yet again.
I say **** points go for the sub.
i lose to ******* to scared to make moves on points and i own with the submission.
******* = owned.

oh and i was getting my metal when they were doing blue belt so i couldn't enter.
ppl who 3win on points = smart *******.....train to play the points game ben and you will be come alot more technical and improve a lot quicker than if youu just go for sub after sub.........you got to get a good position b4 you can get a sub.

can you fathom how amazing it is to walk into your gym and see Din Thomas, "Boca" DeOlivera, Laborio, just to name a few guys and get to train with them?
seriously, I got to work triangles with Din, pound to pass drills with Boca I rolled with Wald for like 25 min.
Training with this team is the most amazing happening in my entire life. Hopefully i can take it somewhere and get to fight representing them.
I do not see myself ever really able to repay this team for everything they have given me, but like 2pac said its just to show you that you are appriciated.

Yoo should tuck you head in against his knee. You should avoid an dkeep tucking you head to avoid getting the head control. Once I pass my leg to go for it, your head should be just outside of his leg that is going to get trapped.

He was askin me if i want to go pro and stuff. I told him that yes i want to go pro but i cannot leave school .
I guess he took that as i just want to fight pro on th side, I reiterated that my main interest is to fight pro and that school is my fallback plan.
Then he said o can come to the tuesday thursday morning 9am BJJ/vale Tudo trainings.
I am excited and nervous.

I drilled a bit then rolled with some 300lbs guy then with Glenn one of Din's students then with Pablo Popavich.
Pablo is the strongest man i've ever rolled with.
Tuesday night went well also, i beat up the white belts a bunch and did quite well with the blues.
This mornin boxing went well, got there normal time at 11 turns out it started at 10 worked defense mostly slipping
more defense needed but i'm gettin better.

Tonight we started training for NHB.
we worked getting off the cage and then pancration sparring.
I sparred with Baroni (his name is george but he is Phil Baroni's cousin) my boxing defense aint that good but he would come in i would clinch and knee then i would push him off and leg kick
everything i threw landed solid.
i kneed him in the head and he kinda dropped so edson said no more knees cause we did not have headgear.
i beat baroni with a triangle and an armbar
then i had to fight Edson... JESUS ****ING CHRIST!
this is after an hour and 15 min of my traiing and his instructing Edson = fresh Ben = beat
we exchanged some punches nothing big then out of no where he kicks me in the ****ing head! right where my neck meets my head and i was like OK no big thing i brushed it off, 10 sec later i was like WTF!!!! i had to take a min.
then i kicked him in the side real good but he blocked wit his elbow and now my leg hurts
but i connected right after iwht a couple good leg kicks
i'm so tired!
gotta shower and go to work.

I cannot extend my foot without alot of pain and i can not curl my toes.
and of you kick boxers or fighters know what the problem could be and how i can fix it?

i dunno what it is i can slip, duck, and slap away a regular strike but i dunno what to do with palm strikes.
i check kicks well and for some reason no one trows blows to the body.
i get the take down, i GnP but i cannot get out of the way of slaps its like i just go blank and grab a Thai clinch.
either way i did well

and i was starin at him i dunno why cuz i wasn't mad i think i was shocked i got kicked in the head
and i think he took it as "i'm gonna kill you" cause i was walkin to him with my hands down and my eyes poppin out
and he gets all jumpy and defensive
i was like its cool
lets go
then everything he threw was mad weak
and he started throwin punches and i thai clinched and kneed him in the stomach and he dropped
Edson yelled at me cause i wasn't sapposed to be kneeing
it just habbit whenever i clinch

i landed a solid right straight and the kid took like 4 steps back looking off to the side kinda reeling

i think i did pretty good.
i think there might have been a possibility that i actually swept him! more than likely i escaped from getting killed and ended up on top.
of our 5 min i had 1 or 2 solid submission attempts one was a frivilous armbar and another was a heel hook. I had that heel hook but leave it to the man to get out with out barely a strain.
i was workin for kneebars and stuff to no avail at all.
I have been working with marcell doin position and him drilling lifting me (i'm like 10lbs heavier than him) in exchange after each exercise i ask him to tell me a phrase in portugese.
I guess its an even trade.
I think he likes teaching peopel the language he was telling me anythign i wanna know or learn in portugese just tell him he will teach me. He also asks me a bunch about english.

Bloquao i did horribly by my own decision i could not take down or sprawl when i needed to and my striking was only semi adiquate
I did sweep a black belt from both mount and 1/2 guard. (that alone shows the difference between grappling and NHB)

did roundhouse for back (batrice) and front (french) leg.
the hip positioning is kinda awkward but i will get used to it
worked deflecting jab and reurning with jab
and
deflecting right straight and returning right straight

I'm gonan take a **** and go for a bike ride (i think 4-6 miles total) in like 30 min (once i ****)
7pm = Muay Thai with PitBull and Hermes
9pm = BJJ with Edson

Seraph_17 08-06-2003, 04:57 PM Ben, how many clubs do you exactly train at? I'm veryyoung (17) and have done a few years of TKD, point kickboxing (yes I know they both suck) and about a year and a half of judo. My speciality is my groundwork. In my city there are some thai/kickboxing clubs, boxing clubs, judo clubs and one MMA club. At my age what do ya think I should train in if I am gonna be a good pro fighter in the future??

There is also a 1 year weight training course at my new college, am I too young to start it (I don't wana stunt my growth, but I am pretty skinny I need to bulk up)
VulgarTheClown 08-06-2003, 06:53 PM I train at 1 club. I train under American Top Team.
at 17 you should not worry about stunting your growth.
It all depends what you want to work on.
For example my ground work is my strength right now so i work more on my striking so as to bring that to be equal with my grappling.
as for your work out at home....do you have someone to hold your mits and all that?
use the heavy bag and do
3x 10 seconds punching for speed FAST FAST FAST FAST. do not worry about powere just worry about throwin fast punches
then do at least 3 Rds of bag work. work on getting combo's to feel natural
Seraph_17 08-06-2003, 09:01 PM Yes I have another mate into MMA also who can be avalaible to help me train etc.
My point about the clubs is that if I want to be a pro fighter is it more productive to first train at somewhere that specialises in one area (i.e Thai Boxing, judo etc) or would it be better to train at this MMA club where they practise all areas???
Also how many days a week do ya think I should train at home? Should i include running/staitionary cycle into my routine at this point?
Anyways thanks a lot for the technical advice, much appreciated man.
VulgarTheClown 08-07-2003, 12:19 AM go to the MMA club. it is most likely that they have a boxing/kickboxing coach along with a wrestling coach and BJJ coach etc..
yes include your cycle/running into your daily exercise
i train at home every day. i try to work out at least twice a day and if i am feeling like a slacker i will go ride my bike.
wake up early to beat the sun and heat run/cycle go home eat some breakfast etc... go about your day. just adding that one little thing in will help you immensely
Seraph_17 08-07-2003, 08:28 AM I have observed the MMA class before, there is not a seperate wrestling coach BJJ coach etc, just one MMA coach, though he is well known as a great teacher in the UK. Still think I should go?
I am also a little worried because they are all men in their twenties/thirties, I'm pretty skinny....am I too young to train there? The coach there says its ok for me to go.

2. speed routine on heavybag
3. 3rds of regular bagwork
4. when possible a few rounds on focus mitts
5. as well as doin this weight training course at my college
Anything I'm missing out there Vulgar?? Do you think i is a good idea to spar outside of a proffessional club with friends??
VulgarTheClown 08-07-2003, 01:53 PM sparing with frieds is fun but unprofessional acting people can make people get hurt. if you got al lthe head gear shin pands and gloves and your willing to take the risk go for it but i would not suggest it

i rolled with one of the blak belts (i do not know how to spell him name) and he beat me so badly, so easily that i got so frustrated that i felt like i could cry.

Seraph_17 08-11-2003, 07:40 PM At the end of the day rhough Vulgar if ya roll with a BJJ blakbelt at his own game he will definetly own ya for sure, but in an MMA match ya know ya could probably take him due to superior wrestling/striking etc, so don't worry too much about losing to guys that are real excllent on the ground.

Nevertheless, the piont I think is what not if Vulgar could KO a BB. the piont I think is that MMA is not BBJ and anything could happen in a MMA fight.
I know many Blue belts that fight MMA and rock, so that being said, who knows maybe Vulgar will be good at MMA, hell maybe I'll get back into fighting MMA.

i sparred with Marcell Ferrerah
everything i drill and worked on went out the ****in window
i couldn't keep my eye on him while throwing punches, i kept blinking i wasn't moving my head i dunno what happened!!
anyway i think its directly related to the fact taht Marcell its hard as **** and he kept hitting me
he hit me so hard in the 1st round that i saw a big green dot for the 2nd and 1/2 of the 3rd round.
apparently i knocked him back a couple times but **** i didn't even know i made contact.
my jaw hurt alot so i chewed gum to get it back in line.
and as for rolling with BJJ blackbelts, i have heelhooked and made tap a Black and a Brown belt. I know the black belt wasn't goin 100% on me and the brown i have no idea.
all in all if you got 1 REALLY good submission and someone moves and you grab it they tap. its just how the game goes.
i feel fat again i missed like 3 trainin sessions last week

my bicep is a constant state of hurt i feel like there is a big needle goin through the center of my hand and i cannot feel my shoulder.

VulgarTheClown 09-01-2003, 09:44 PM I went down the hall and was bull****tin with some of my buddies, one of them is a really good wrestler he asked if i wanted to roll so i said sure.
he get in the hall (which is all concreete) and we clinch and starts lookin for the take down, i hop guard and imediately tranfer to amrbar. I start to tighten it up and he yanks his arm out right before i pull, i regain my guard and go for kneebarhe turns his leg so i snatch a heelhook, i turn he falls to the floor and taps.
i help him up he is OK and he is bleeding from a rugburn, he asks if i wanna go agian, i say sure.
this time i do not hop guard and he takes me down with a double, (by now 1/2 of the dorm is out in the hall watching) i work for a gilotine and he spreads his legs which allows me to regain my guard, he then asks me if he is allowed to strangle and i tell him sure but its not a good idea, he says why not ans starts to strangle me so i armbar him i get the armbar in but i'm not crankin ithe stacks me so i switch to triangle i'm securing my foot and he says "we might as well stop cause neither of us are gettin anywhere" so i say sure. he says "i know you were tryin to get my arm out and squeeze my head" I explained i had exactly what i wanted and it was only a matter ofabout 10 sec before he was choking. we laughed and parted ways.

first day back was yesterday. It was a with Gi day and i did pretty good i tapped a blue belt but i'm not to sure he was a blue belt be he said he had been doin jiu jitsu for 2 years.
today I did NHB training followed by Muay Thai
NHB just did some submission because due to my shoulder i cannot go all out.
I did alot better than i used to
at MT i thought i did horribly i thought my kicks were off and my stance was horrid.
the coaches said i did good, my toes hurt.
after class pit bull went over with me how to fix my kick.
I am gonna try to get all the info i can on those amateur shows in New Orleans and try to compete if Liborio (sorry Carlos) says OK

I just got off a shoulder injury to come into a knee injury.
Next week i will be in Hawaii for Shooto so another slow week.
I had an MRI on my knee yesterday because the Doc thinks i have 1 of 3 things... 1) a torn meniscus 2) a partially torn ACL 3) a really bad contusion (bruise) I hope its 3 then i will be back in 2 or so weeks.
There are rumors goin around of my fighting in Switserland Shooto in September. Unfortunately thats right around midterms so i dunno if it will happen.
I keep goin up in weight but looking more built. i need to lean the **** out, not get bigger.
