Arguably the greatest trilogy of fights in boxing history are the Ali-Frazier fights, exciting, grueling fights between two of boxings greatest champions. So my question is, which of the three do you believe to be the best and why?

Personally I'll have to go with the first one, Ali had a bit of ring-rust from being gone for those three years, but I think they were in the best shape in the first fight and were much less eroded than in the latter two.

I like the third one the most. Both guys gave it everything they had and were on the brink of death. They were both past their primes but it showed how much they wanted to win.

I like the first and third fight, because you witness Ali getting an awesome pounding. Hehe. Just Kidding.

My fav is the first one. Frazier shutting Ali up was priceless.

First is the best, hands down. The third was an exciting but sloppy fight where neither man was as sharp as he had once been.

First.
It lived up to its title THE FIGHT OF THE CENTURY.
Both undefeated. Ali, coming back to claim his title, and a young Frazier at his best.

It had everything. The political backdrop was amazing, the fans were split, with alot of people loving Ali for not going to war, whereas at first they hated him.
Plus it set up the Rumle in the Jungle prefectly, with Fazier taking everything Ali had, plus knocking him down. Then Foreman destroys Frazier and everyone thinks Ali will get killed agaisnt Foreman.

Also the third fight Ali had already beaten him, so the victory wasnt as great as it could have been.

While the third installment is my personal favorite, I'd have to say the "greatest" or most significant and highest quality showdown of the three would have to be the first.

Ali was 29, Frazier was 26, both were undefeated, both had a legitimate claim to the title, and, as will all of them, both tried to knock the other one out with about every punch they threw.

The first fight was the best because both were closer to their primes; and Joe was in his.

1st one for those reasons.

at no point in the 1st fight was ali getting pounded,if it wasn't for the knock down it would have been scored a draw imo

Frazier was constantly connecting with that left hook all throughout the fight and also bringing a vicious body attack, and Frazier did an outstanding job of slipping Ali's punches in that fight. The fight wasn't close. I don't even know that Ali won the first round.

When you get pounded to the body like that and get hit with like 200 flush Joe Frazier left hooks to the head I think that constitutes a "pounding."

I also thought Ali at times was getting his arse kicked.

Maybe the 10th where Ali's legs buckled and he was all over the shop.

Ali was teeing off on Frazier for most of the fight. Ali outlanded Frazier 2:1 in that fight. Frazier won because he landed the harder blows.

I guess you wern't counting blows to the body no matter how damaging they were. Ali was beaten badly in that fight, his legs were rubbery from the 10th round on and like I said you can't even say he won the first round or the earlier part of the fight. Frazier beat the **** out of him, and on the cards, Frazier 10 rounds to 5. And most of the rounds Ali won were not in dominant fashion as opposed to Frazier.

Ali was 29 and during his layoff he wasn't just laying around going to Nation of Islam of meetings. He was actively training alot of that time and had fought quality opposition prior to the bout in Jerry Quarry and Oscar Bonavena.

You are a grade-A idiot. Ali dominated the first few rounds, as the films would show. What happened? You're mad because Ali didn't wan't to give you an autograph or something? haha!:owned:

How it going versatile? When is your next fight?

Frazier's 15th round
11-11-2006, 12:10 PM
I don't see where Ali dominated the first few rounds. 1, 4, and 5 were pretty close, and I gave the 3rd round to Frazier. Frazier basically takes over after the 5th. I gave him 8 of the next 10 rounds.

Also, Ali outlanding Frazier 2:1 or 3:1 is a myth. I remember someone doing a punchstat that said that Ali landed 592 punches, while Frazier landed 579.

3, then 1, then 2.

2 was crap and a clinch fest.

100 of those 579 Frazier's punches were from 6th and 8th round when Ali laid on ropes and Frazier hit him with light punches to the body like they were on training. Those were counted also.
