View Full Version : Bruce Lee "ali Would Kill Me"
Bob Anomaly 10-24-2006, 04:01 PM From the horses mouth.
An extract from the book i own. Pictured below.
Bruce was screening a Cassius Clay documentry. Ali was world heavyweight champion at the time and Bruce saw him as the greatest fighter of them all. Bruce set up a wide full length mirror to reflect Ali's image from the screen. Bruce was looking into the mirror, mirroring along with Ali. Bruce's right hand followed Ali's right hand. Ali's left foot followed Bruce's left foot.
Bruce was fighting in Ali's shoes.
"Everybody says I must fight Ali some day" Bruce said, "Im studying every move he makes, Im getting to know how he thinks and moves".
Bruce knew he could never win a fight against Ali. "Look at my hands" he said. "Thats a little chinese hand. He'd kill me"
Below is the book. Page 148. Great book.

hugh grant 10-24-2006, 04:08 PM Yep that is the book i have. The ALi comments is about a proposed boxing exhibition between the 2 that was being discussed.
Bruce Lee admitted that Ali would have beaten him under queensbury, but nothing else. I know that.
And Bruce Lee said "To tell the truth.....i can beat anyone in the world" ANd by that he means in a real fight.

Indeed. At least Lee was smart enough to know Ali would beat him, even though his fans lack this intelliegence/common sense.
Kid Achilles 10-24-2006, 05:58 PM I don't think anyone really thinks Lee could beat Ali in a boxing match. The person who does is a delusional fool.
If you think Lee could beat Ali in the streets then you at least have a leg to stand on. But in a boxing match? Impossible.

Yea, there is a page showing Lee and Yeung fighting. Il post it .
The fact that Lee draws attention to HIS HAND ALONE (this little chinese hand) lends much credence to the notion that he was only talking about a boxing match. Lee was a devoted student of Western boxing which is why he admired Ali so much.
Yaman 10-25-2006, 02:08 PM Its great to read Bruce Lee's respect for Muhammad Ali.
Haters should know about that before calling him a skinny actor who never beat anyone.

His respect for Ali doesnt change the fact that his real fights and opponents are totally unknown.
Of course he was more than a skinny actor.

bruce was small, but i'd bet he'd whip a lot of guys in a streetfight. he'd move so fast i think he'd be very hard to hit but he could probably hit you or me.

He'd definatly beat the ever loving shit outa me.
He'd beat the bejesus outa me.
He'd kick my colon back to the future so he would.
But he'd have good reason to.
He'd hate my sarcasim and improper use of the English language.

i wouldn't trust my amatuer boxing skills against bruce, i'm faster than average but not faster than him. i'd have to get bolo yeung to soften him up first

Kinda like Bruce Lee. I heard a theory he choked on someones fat gut.
Possibly his widows. Of course she wasnt a widow at the time, that would make him a zombie.
That gives me an idea for a film.

this is ****ed up, but it reminds me of this anime i was watching where the little sister wanted her tits to grow bigger, and one day they did, and she was bragging about them and her big sister - who looked a lot like bettie page ( or kate beckinsale with bigger tits) leaned over in front of her and said " whose are bigger?". i'll never get that image out of my brain

Jeet Kune Do was just a word for mixed martial arts. It would be like saying since i beat a subpar UFC fighter last week (UFC is modern mixed martial arts) I can beat the UFC champ. Or for that matter, since I beat one boxer I can beat any boxer.

hemichromis 10-28-2006, 06:16 AM in a streetfight lee would probs win he would be aiming for alis eyes balls and knees whereas ali would try and box
in a boxing match ali would kick his ass i have no doubt of that

Why would Ali try and box in a streetfight?? I don't know any boxer who tries to box a guy on the street.

why wouldn't he use what he knows best, what he is 'greatest' at?
actually ali would find it easier to take hi to ground a 220 pounder vs a 130 pounder on the ground is not gonna be exactly competitive!

And I think if it's all gonna be about what they train in then Lee's only chance would be asking Ali to stand still whilst he performs the one inch punch!

Are you talking about a fight on the ground?

I think wen it comes to ground work, weight becomes irrelevant.

Exhibition fights don't count or amateur fights the unbeatable Lee had a draw
RelliK 10-27-2008, 09:12 AM Exhibition fights don't count or amateur fights the unbeatable Lee had a draw
This was when he was young years before he started JKD.
No he wasn't unbeatable no one is, and no he wouldn't beat Ali in boxing.
He was very advanced for his time in MMA but a lot of the ground stuff he was doing was right out of the WWF and wouldn't work today.
my guess is if he was able to take a good punch he could have become a one of the great boxers of his time based on his speed ,power and he's always in shape.
I think he would have been a lot like a Ray leonard or Roy Jones but a little more agressive.
As far as a street fight against heavyweights who knows...
You see little guys tap and knock out giants all the time but none of them are Ali.
I think Lee would use a lot of leg kicks to slow Ali down side and jumping kicks to make up for Ali's reach advantage and would just be up to Lee not to get caught on the chin.

Can I get videos of him doing ground stuff against a real opponent not his movies. If not don't comment on him and his ground work

Did you even read what i said ?
I said his ground work prob wasn't even that good.
I've never seen you throw a hook but i'm betting you know how to do it.
My point is that he KNEW how to fight but no one knows if he could do it when it ment something.
It's all guess work.
