View Full Version : Franklin and the UFC??
LHWchamp5 10-17-2006, 09:20 AM I remeber dana white making fun of wanderlei for being KO'd recently by cro-cop calling such things as a human HL reel and how his head was kicked to a distant planet.. What about rich??
I'll admit wandy probablly thought he was on the moon after that kick.. But i'll bet rich never imagined pluto could look so hospitable..
It's going to be interesting to see what the UFC does with their new human HL reeal mr.rich "deuce" franklin..
Besides thats 2 of UFC's best strikers(in that division) that A.silva dismantled before the end of the first round.. It's about time dana the deuche white starts showing respect for them pride fighters.. After all Pride is going to be the reason UFC gets put out of business in the near future..
Do you actually think we'll see UFC 112 it could be called "the card nobody cares about"
I dont', UFC cant even put out quality fight cards now, how are they gonna last another 50 shows when pride is comming to vegas..
Bye bye UFC, bye bye dana white and remeber if things get really bad,. just jump infront of a bus, i've been begging you to do it for years..
Peace.
SnoopySmurf 10-17-2006, 11:31 AM I've often reffered to UFC as the NASCAR and Pride FC as Formula One.
Then again, I hate NASCAR. :)
living_legend 10-17-2006, 06:43 PM you do realise that anderson silva will be fighting for the UFC from now on....it was many years ago that he fought in pride so dont give me that crap...UFC is signing the best talent out there and the best talent out there WANTS to come to the UFC....
Left2body 10-17-2006, 07:12 PM Yeah, I didn't like how Dana White mocked Vanderlie either. It was something like this:
Reporter:Any news on Liddel vs Vanderlie fight?
Dana: Wasn't Vanderlie just assasinated? Ha ha, giggle giggle
Dana doesn't even mention that Vanderlie only lost in an open weight tournament in which Vanderlie was the only Non-heavyweight to even make it to the semi-finals.
I like the fact that Dana has made MMA more mainstream and popular here in the states but he is often an asshole and tries to devalue any event or fighter that isn't UFC.
Did Dana forget the beating that Rampage put on Chuck?
Pride isn't going to do as well in the U.S. as UFC, ever. UFC will be fine....
the_fusionist 10-17-2006, 07:26 PM The UFC has better Fight Nights than they do have UFC Championships; its the same things accept the fighters want it more.
I think Silva wooping Leben and Franklin goes to show what UFC fighters lack; reality. I'm not saying Pride fighters are better but in Pride they fight differently.
1. Sylvia wins the heavyweight championship by stalling
2. Liddell doesn't challenge himself
3. Hughes gets his ass beat until his opponent tires
All of these guys would be killed in Pride.
With the WFA and Pride, the UFC is better off as a TV show and finale. They should stop having other events because there's nothing spectacular.
KingDosia 10-17-2006, 08:07 PM I remeber dana white making fun of wanderlei for being KO'd recently by cro-cop calling such things as a human HL reel and how his head was kicked to a distant planet.. What about rich??

You are missing a very important point. UFC has A TON of corporate sponsers and more signing up everyday with mouths watering over the MMA phenominon and the opp for advertising dollars. Check the TV ratings for UFC compared to PRIDE. There most recent rush to the states isn't a power move, more like a desperate attempt to keep itself supplied with talent. The fighters are going where the money is bottom line. I think your theory will have an oposite ending
the_fusionist 10-17-2006, 11:22 PM post some stats because I thought pride paid more to their fighters.
Pride does pay there fighters alot more. Rich Franklin makes $21,000 a fight and he is the former champ. Pride has the best fighters, but your average american fan don't give a shit, he just wants to see "the dudes from the TV show" whale on eachother....
Left2body 10-18-2006, 02:20 AM Pride pays it fighters more and is much more popular in Japan than UFC. Pride has been selling out huge arenas for years now. UFC has only begun to approach this over the last year or so (since TUF show finale).
I think that aside from the current fighters Pride's rules are more geared to having exciting fights. Delays and non-activity is quickly given a yellow card (with 10% of purse deducted) and non-progressive situations are broken up and the fighters are put back to standing positions.
The ropes instead of a fence also appears to dictate that more of the action is fought in the middle of the ring where we can see striking and ground work uninhibited by a fence.
Lastly look at the amount of tournaments that Pride gives. These tournaments give us better fairer matchups with the best regularly fighting each other. UFC too often have one sided matchups on its undercard and there are rarely good name matchups outside of championship fights or main events (or co-main events).
Marjoh 10-18-2006, 04:00 AM LOL It is kinda funny how Silva actually made more than double the amount that of Franklin for their fight. But then again, that's probably why he moved to UFC. If DSE make a name for themselves here in the US and started offering similar amounts to fighters for their US shows as their Japan shows counterpart, we may see UFC fighters moving to Pride if UFC don't up the numbers (except maybe for Franklin, who seems highly royal to Zuffa).
I wish Pride great success here in the state as that may be the only way we'll see fighters from each promotion in the same ring or octagon more often. If that happens, in a few years, instead of wishing for "UFC champ vs Pride champ," we'd be asking "when".

LHWchamp5 10-18-2006, 06:54 AM to the guy that said fighters go where the money is.. Your absolutely right.. Why do you think IFL and WFA are signing all the top american up-commers?? cause UFC still pays the Noob's shit.. Current TUF winners are only getting approx 30G a year.. Griffin was probablly making more as a cop.
Recent pay rate for UFC 63/64 both event combined barely reach over $500,000 pay salary.. Now thats freekin sad for a company claiming to bring in millions per PPV..
http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=2792&zoneid=13
UFC is allowing these orgs to stay in business by not paying aggressive salaries.. It's a combination of things thats gonna put UFC to an end and i'll be applauding the day it happens.. Maybe IFL will be the next big thing in US and let's hope they form a friendship/partnership with pride and other orgs so we can truly see who the best fighters are..
Afterall if dana truly cared about the sport and it's popularity he would have put together wandy/chuck.. Rather than publically announcing it without having anything signed..
nfc90210 10-27-2006, 10:07 AM Rich Franklin makes $21,000 a fight and he is the former champ
The UFC main evnters make very good money.
It has been recently reported that for the small shows they get $1 each from every PPV, and that for the larger shows they get $2.50 from every PPV buy. Franklin is getting a cut of the PPV.
From Dave Meltzer...
UFC main eventers make huge money. Rich made $280,000 for his match against Loiseau. He made $1 per buy against Silva as a bonus plus his $21,000. Figure that's another $200,000 to $300,000.
Pride mid-card and undercard guys make far more than UFC.
Nobody is Pride makes close to what Ortiz makes because of % of PPV.
ray the grey 10-27-2006, 02:10 PM ahh, its all good. What a great time to be a fan. UFC on ****e, on Bell Express Vu i just got a Fight Channel with lotsa reruns of all types of mma and boxing...hope some channel goes fer a Pride weekly show, fights once a week...

The fight network ahahah what a joke.. Good concept but i bet they're still playing the same events from when the channel first hit the air..
besides to much shitty wrestling on their to be called a fight network..
davesummers 10-29-2006, 05:00 AM UFC stants for U fight Cheep.
Lots of MMA fighters want to make $$. My didnt UFC get Rampage well the WFA gave Rampage more $$. Plain and simple. If you want the best MMA fighters you have to pay them. Pride pays more than the UFC. Thats a fact.
WFA is backed by Don King so they have all the $$ they need.
I worried about the UFC. Think about it. Rich was supposed to be the best. A Pride Fighter comes here and Beats the UFC champ down in less than 1 round and KO him in a aggressive manner!
Could you imagine Fedor. Cro Cop Mark Hunt, Wanderli. Dan henderson, In the UFC? Might not ever happen UFC wont pay enough.

Ya...i see what yu mean...ive seen the Nanaimo Tuff man compitions about 9 times now...a week...if it dont get any better i wont be picking it up once the free preview ends...
Palma 10-30-2006, 05:17 PM UFC is King here in North Amercia due to the fact that they are a US comodoty. The Pride orgaznizations are much bigger in Europe and Asia. I think if Pride is seriously interetsed in gaining more US sponsors and US airtime they are going to have to start investing in more live fights here in the US. I had heard that their Vegas premier did not make that much money, which was to be expected. I personally like the Pride fighters a lot better. I also like dynamics of the rules vs. UFC's.
