View Full Version : Suger Ray Leonard vs Joe Calzaghe Dye 10-16-2006, 04:21 PM who wins /////// Brockton Lip 10-16-2006, 04:40 PM Joe is bigger but Sugar Ray is Sugar Ray. I'm gonna have to go with Leonard by UD. Nelson da Cruz 10-16-2006, 05:05 PM Sugar Ray Leonard would take it easily in my opinion.....too classy and way too good. I can't see Calzaghe beating Hearns, Hagler or Duran and Ray L beat all of them. Southpaw Stinger 10-16-2006, 05:12 PM Have to go with the Sugar man! Shanus 10-16-2006, 05:38 PM Sugar Ray Leonard is IMHO the greatest of all time, but he was also a natural welterweight, Joe Calzaghe started at SMW and will most likely be moving up shortly, I'm going to go with Joe Calzaghe by a close UD. Southpaw Stinger 10-16-2006, 06:01 PM Sugar Ray Leonard is IMHO the greatest of all time, but he was also a natural welterweight, Joe Calzaghe started at SMW and will most likely be moving up shortly, I'm going to go with Joe Calzaghe by a close UD. It's only a small size difference. Sugar Ray was competitive at welter, middle and super middle. I'm sure he can handle the jump in weight and use his superior skills to win a decision. GEOFFHAYES 10-16-2006, 07:31 PM Calzaghe would blow Leonard out of the water, a young Calzaghe would be far too big and strong for him at 168. At 147, I see Leonard winning.. because Joe was only a teenager. Shanus 10-16-2006, 07:49 PM It's only a small size difference. Sugar Ray was competitive at welter, middle and super middle. I'm sure he can handle the jump in weight and use his superior skills to win a decision. This wasn't a prime Leonard, and Joe is bigger and faster than Hagler was, I just see Leonard having alot of trouble shaking Joe off him, I can see Joe tagging him frequently and Leonard getting angered by it and drawn in, losing a decision. Yaman 10-17-2006, 10:03 AM Leonard, because he's not overrated. skyler 10-17-2006, 01:02 PM Suger Ray by UD. hugh grant 10-17-2006, 05:17 PM Very hard decision, but i will go for Joe Calzaghe at Supermiddlewight on points. wpink1 10-18-2006, 02:08 AM leoanrd in his peak...easy clowns Calzaghe...No leoanrd would not let his anger of getting hit by a clean shot, sidetrack him and get into a war. Come on.....Ray did this one time vs duran, and look at what he was able to do after this by simply using his mind, and adapting to the style that would allow him to be successful. Why all of a sudden is leonard going to simply ignore his speed and boxing ability this night....hmmm Finally the leonard that faced hagler was not at his peak, and he was slow..If Ray had fought hagler in 83, you would have seen the blueprint he would have used for calzaghe...If leonard had fought hagler in 83 (when duran almost beat him) he would have probalby won a very easy fight...The only thing that made that fight close was that ray wars inactive for 5 yrs..and he had lost all his stamina wmute 10-18-2006, 03:55 AM leoanrd in his peak...easy clowns Calzaghe...No leoanrd would not let his anger of getting hit by a clean shot, sidetrack him and get into a war. (I am being polite) wmute 10-18-2006, 03:57 AM I take Calzaghe by UD: he is a very good SMW (if not great), which is something leonard never faced GOAT_Ali 10-19-2006, 04:49 AM Ray was not close to being a 12 stone fighter but even still he beats the feather fisted overrated sloppy Calzaghe. The LEONARD THAT BEAT LALONDE wins any way he decides wmute 10-19-2006, 01:51 PM Ray was not close to being a 12 stone fighter but even still he beats the feather fisted overrated sloppy Calzaghe. The LEONARD THAT BEAT LALONDE wins any way he decides I thought it was kind of obvious that Calzaghe is a slightly different commodity than Lalonde. A dehydrated Johnny Lalonde actually who was fighting at the ridiculous catch weight of 167, while being a 175 beltholder. KingDosia 10-19-2006, 01:56 PM Sugar Ray UD, He handled Hearns who was a lot bigger. Haggler, Duran - stronger. I have no doubt he wins this one. wmute 10-19-2006, 01:58 PM Leonard had 2 fights above 160 Lalonde (see above).... Hearns (Leonard admitted losing the fight) (Hearns was a former welterweight) oh you can throw in his defense of the 168 belt against Duran (former lightweight), while both were weighing in at the MW limit wmute 10-19-2006, 02:04 PM Sugar Ray UD, He handled Hearns who was a lot bigger. Haggler, Duran - stronger. I have no doubt he wins this one. are you saying Hearns is bigger (taller, yes) than calzaghe? and Duran stronger than calzaghe? Hydro 01-10-2007, 07:51 PM At 168 hoe wins p4p leonard wins. ceboxer15 01-10-2007, 08:49 PM who wins /////// Sugar Ray by UD. King Koyle 01-11-2007, 11:59 AM Leonard by UD.... phallusy 01-12-2007, 02:05 AM I thought it was kind of obvious that Calzaghe is a slightly different commodity than Lalonde. A dehydrated Johnny Lalonde actually who was fighting at the ridiculous catch weight of 167, while being a 175 beltholder. it was bullshit to make lalonde defend his 175 lb title at 168. wmute, i'm not saying this for u but for the other guys on this thread, lalonde was a big puncher and slow, he's nothing like calazghe. calzaghe has lighting fast combinations, even ray leonard would be suprised at joey's handspeed. i don't see calzaghe beating ray leonard, though vBulletin® v3.7.1, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
